Unfortunately, I don't. That's what I've read on the ship manifest. Since there are two other Dembek coming from the area around Lomza (not that far from Lithuania border) I guess your place could be Jednaczewo. Just a guess, of course.

Gilberto - do you have the place reference in Lithuania? His ship manifest does say he was Lithuanian, which I always assumed was an error. But you know what they say about assuming!

And I tried Jednow* Lednow* Sednow* and Zednow* in SGKP. No luck. It seems to me it was misheard and misspelled.
However, it was a place in Lithuania.
Gina,
You might have luck by accessing Falling
Grain site which is a global gazateer which is alphabetized.

tp://www.fallingrain.com

I checked out the "j"s and there a a couple of possibilities.

Good luck ,
Hi, I'm not sure that the village name starts with J. On the manifest page
http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipManifest.asp?MID=05490038800161308224&FNM=STANISLAW&LNM=DEMBEK&PLNM=DEMBEK&first_kind=1&last_kind=0&RF=7&pID=102389090273&
there are names Jan, Josef, Josefa, Jersey City, in which the cursive J seems to be written somewhat in the same way, and it's not the same as the beginning letter in the village name. Unfortunately, looking over the handwriting on the page, I'm not sure what the beginning letter is. Maybe other eyes can make it out. You may know that the names in the index come from volunteer transcribers, and sometimes we need to decipher the original because they didn't get it right.

My great-grandfather, Stanislaw Dembek, immigrated to the U.S. in 1905. The original ship manifest seems to say that he came from "Jednowzice", Russia/Poland. Any searches I do on Jednowzice come up empty, however. Is this a misspelling of another city/area - perhaps Jednorozec? I am not familiar enough with Polish to know if Jednorozec and Jednowzice sound significantly similar.
