Hi Shellie,

Thank you for reminding me of this posting I had started. I actually received some great news recently but forgot to post an update here until I saw your last reply.

Shortly after sending them an inquiry about my great-grandmother, I received an email reply from the Diocesan Archives of Tarnów. They confirmed that they had found entries for my family in their records from Mogilno parish. I then sent a small payment via (postal) mail and within 2 weeks I received a CD-ROM from them containing digital copies of my great-grandmother's birth record, her parents' marriage, and birth records for several of her siblings!

These records confirmed her village as Posadowa in Mogilno parish. They also introduced another mystery for me: on Anna's birth record her father was not listed, her birth was 'illegitimate'. But the marriage record the archives sent was dated only a few months after the birth, so my assumption is that the groom was her father. I suppose I will never know for sure.
I have requested searches to AP Torun, Wloclawek, Elblag, Lodz, Mlawa and Plock. They usually take about one month, though I have had responses from Lodz in about 20 dyas. Plock has been so fast (about a week) that it makes me think they have all names stored in a computer. On the other hand, to get a response from Mlawa makes you somebody special.
As to your film I am very curious, to say the least: does it mean the film cannot be ordered at a local FHC but can be viewed in Salt Lake Library?
For those of you who have emailed the Polish State Archives (specifically the Nowy Sacz branch), how long has it taken to receive a reply?

Also, has anyone had experience with hiring professional genealogists in Salt Lake City to do research? Thanks to the hint Gilberto provided above, I was able to confirm the microfilms I want are available in the SLC main library. I will not be able to ravel there myself for some time, so I have contacted a local researcher who specializes in Polish records. His name is Marek Koblanski (www.genealogyexplorer.us); has anyone worked with him? If so, I would be interested in your opinions.
You are right about the idea of the FH Library editing out recent years, I wish that was an option (I asked and they are not set up to do that). I think at this point they are probably focusing resources on digitzing the collections instead, but that will take years.

The Nowy Sacz branch covers the Korzenna gmina (to where Mogilno belongs to), so I think this is the right place to go. It would be great if the Library edited those films of mixed years, cutting off those not allowed to be publicized.

Thank you for you reply. Using the keyword search you suggested I do find films I am interested in. Unfortunately these contain some records newer than 100 years mixed in with the older records I need, so they cannot be loaned to a local branch. I am in contact with the main library in Salt Lake City regarding options to view the older records. As you and I have corresponded about previously, one option is to request duplication services for individual records. Without knowing the birth year for certain, this may or may not work for me. I will continue to look into other ideas.

About Polish State Archives: the records I want are older than 100 years. Is this the correct branch to contact for Posadowa/Mogilno?

When I can't find a place in FHL Catalog using "Place search" button, I then use "Keyword Search". In your case, it displayed films for Posadowa in Mogilno parish and Podole-Gorowa parish, though I don't it they cover the frame of time you are looking for. Here is the link:
https://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titlehitlist&columns=*%2C0%2C0&keyword=posadowa&prekeyword=posadowa

The Mogilno listed in State Archives (bazy danich) refers to the one near Bydgoszcz.

If the records you are looking are less than 100 years old, you must go to the Civil Register Office (USC) in Korzenna:
Urząd Stanu Cywilnego - Korzenna
Hello,

I live in the U.S. and I am trying to research the ancestry of my great-grandmother Anna Chronowska, who I believe was from the village of Posadowa in Mogilno parish (map: http://g.co/maps/amemj).

Unfortunately it does not seem that the LDS Family History Library has microfilmed records from this parish; searches in their catalog are unsuccessful. I have written a letter (in Polish, using the LDS Polish letter writing templates) to the Mogilno parish priest. I enclosed a $20 US cash donation and asked for any Catholic parish records (I provided her name, parents' names and approximate date ranges). I mailed this in October (2011) but have not received a response yet, positive or negative. I realize this method may take a long time (if I receive any response at all), so I still have hope.

My question is: what other research options do I have for this parish/village while I wait patiently for a response to my letter? I have read the articles here about the Polish State archives, but I am still not clear whether or not they might have records I am interested in, or how to find out.

If anyone else has done research in this area, or if anyone has suggestions, I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Thank you.
