Thanks for sending these maps! Sorry I was never notified when you posted them here - not sure why.

Mokre appears to consist of one road of houses, divided by the road into Junno. Is that correct? I'm wondering if Mokre consists of anything other than houses. Is it considered a village?

I tried to download the maps for my genealogy files (and to print enlargements), but the website wouldn't allow it.

Thanks again for your help!

Hi Sean,

I am so surprised to have you say that the Polona website would not allow you to download the maps. I just tried it, and had no problem. To be specific, when you click on a link in my earlier message, it takes you to a page that shows images of the front and the back of the map, and on this screen there is a download function, but don't use it or you will get a very low resolution image of about 750kb. Instead, click on the image of the map which opens it to show great detail. Once it is fully loaded, then click on the icon for downloading (that icon that looks like an arrow pointing down into a tray). This gave me a 24MB download.

Could you try again, and see if it works for you?

To your question about Mokre, it is indeed small. You see the number 13 by Mokre, compared to 40 for Junno. According to the explanation of symbols on the right edge of the map, the number represents "anzahl der hoefe" which is the number of farms. So Mokre consisted of 13 farms at the time this map was drawn. Typically, in villages that I have looked at, houses are clustered along the road.

Hi Sean,

Here are your maps!

Grabowiec, lower left part of the map:
https://polona.pl/preview/287401a0-be7b-492a-ac74-45dc1051f855

Tuliszkow, upper right part of the map:
https://polona.pl/preview/da0a5ff5-9631-4485-925f-e549587f5945

This last map is directly west of the Tuliszkow map. You can find both Grodziec and Mokre on it:
https://polona.pl/preview/52bc782e-7d90-495c-a0b7-585f448d967b

Mokre is smaller, and just a tad southwest of Grodziec. I am glad when you asked about these places that you named the parish and not just the town of birth, because there are several places in Poland called Mokre.

All the best,
No problem, Sean. I did find these four places on old maps. Mind you, they do not have property numbers on them, they are not that kind of map, but still they are lovely maps to add to the family album. I will organize the links to them, and post them tomorrow morning.

My great-grandfather was born in Grabowiec (Tuliszkow parish) in 1879, and he lived in Mokre (Grodziec parish) in 1901 before emigrating to America.

In America, it's easy to find old maps of small towns that show house numbers and the names of the homeowners. Is it the same in Poland? I'm hoping to find old maps of Grabowiec and Mokre that show where my ancestors lived. Old photos of these villages would also be amazing.

Thanks everyone for the help!
Hi Sean,

There are cadastral maps, but as far as I recall, I have only seen them for Galicia. Even then, the properties on the maps are usually labelled only with numbers and you have to locate a separate document that lists who had what number property; of course this changes over time. I have not seen cadastral maps for the area you are interested in.

I can locate old maps that show Grabowiec, Tuliszkow, Mokre and Grodziec, but perhaps you already have those?

Best regards,
Hi everyone,

My great-grandfather was born in Grabowiec (Tuliszkow parish) in 1879, and he lived in Mokre (Grodziec parish) in 1901 before emigrating to America.

In America, it's easy to find old maps of small towns that show house numbers and the names of the homeowners. Is it the same in Poland? I'm hoping to find old maps of Grabowiec and Mokre that show where my ancestors lived. Old photos of these villages would also be amazing.

Thanks everyone for the help!
