Barb are you able to tell me where you found this record so that my son and I can travel to see it in person potentially?
Thanks!

Just to add to what Barb has already written, if you want to know where this place is today, go back to this entry for Gollub from the gazetteer:

https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10591026

Click on the "map" tab, then click on "toggle historical map." That will show you the place on a current map and the spelling of the town today, Golub-Dobrzyn.

If you have any difficulty deciphering what is written on the residence cards for your family, let us know and we may be able to help you out. Some of it is Polish, some German.

Best regards,
Wow! That is amazing. I cannot believe you found all this.
Yes, I found the original card on the. https://e-kartoteka.net/en/search Poznan Residents Registry 1870-1931. I have been searching for the Konieczny parents - names indicated on the original card I had as Antoni and Jozefa (maiden name Raj).
And also the Schulz parents - I had been given their names as Jan and Maria (maiden name Jentowicz) which I now think is incorrect.

I am so thankful for your help!

OK, I found the Schulz family. Here are two links. The first one takes you to the start of the Schulz family, the second one shows Anna Schulz (first person on that page) and as you can see, her birth date matches the birth date on the card when Anna is listed with her husband Leon Konieczny.
On this record, the name of her town of birth looks like Gollub, Kreis Briesen.

Click on this link for the Meyer's Gazetteer entry for "Golembin, Alt, Neu" (meaning both Old Golembin and New Golembin) and then click on the tab for "map." This is another possible location for Golubin. It is just south of Poznan.

https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10590020

If you then click on the tab "ecclesiastical" it will show you the locations of the nearest churches.

Sophia & Barb,

Approximately 250 miles and outside of Wielkopolskie is way to great a distance. The probable reason you can’t locate Golubin is that it most likely does not exist under that name or any variation thereof. The village was well on its way to obscurity and oblivion by the end of the 19th Century. It was definitely in the vicinity of Oborniki but was not a szlachecka village. It was so insignificant that it barely merited a few word reference in the Słownik geograficzny http://dir.icm.edu.pl/pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_I/370 The mention of Golubin is approximately ¾ from the beginning of the entry. If anyone is bound and determined to locate it on a map perhaps it may appear on the 1803 map of South Prussia by David Gilly, and then again, perhaps not, The Gilly map is not aligned to true North but I’ve found it very useful in understanding the land use as it was during the late 18th & early 19th Centuries. There is no index to the map and to locate a place it is necessary to use the Biblical method of “seek & you’ll find”.

Good luck,

Yes, it is quite a long distance to Poznan / Oborniki.
I checked yesterday the parish of Stezyca and the Civil Registry Office in Szymbark and unfortunately I did not find Anna.
Yes, it would be nice to see the link to this page.

Hi Barb,

According to Meyer's Gazetteer, Gollubien is today's Gołubie. The nearest Catholic church was in Stendsitz, today's Stężyca. There was a Protestant church in Stendsitz/Stężyca but also one closer to Gollubien/Gołubie was the one in Schonberg, today's Szymbark.

I realize this is some distance from Poznan and Oborniki.

ALAEssex, can you find the Schulz parents page in the list of inhabitants where you found the Konieczny family? This may be another chance for you to see how Golubin is written. If they switched over to Polish spelling, you may find them as Szulc or Szulz but I am guessing that since Anna is listed as Schulz then so will her parents be listed that way.

Best regards,
Hi ALAEssex,

Thanks for posting that image. At the moment, no bright ideas occur as to what "Golubin" is, but fear not! You have info on this card that may help. It shows that Anna Schulz married Leon Konieczny on 2. 10. 20, that is, on the second of October 1920 (1820? what time frame is this card from?). It showed the couple moved 4 days later from what looks like one street in Poznan (Dabrowskiego 35) to another street in Poznan (Wawrzenia 34) "u Szulza" which I believe indicates that they lived with Anna's parents. So if you find their marriage record in Poznan, you may get another chance to see how her town of birth was written.

There is much more info on this card but I think that the town of Anna's birth is your primary focus, right? There is a notation "see the parents' card" but it's not clear to me if that is her parents or his being referred to.

I hope that Marcel or Barb can look at this and comment as to whether I am interpreting this correctly.

Hi ALAEssex,

I agree with you, the handwriting looks like Golubin and I cannot find this place, either. However, I looked at an online gazetteer and found some villages with similar sounding names. Ignoring those that are in East Prussia and farther afield, here are a few for you to consider:

Gollubien, Karthaus, Danzig, Westpreussen https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10591031

Gulbien, Rosenberg, Marienwerder, Westpreussen https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10681029

Glupon, Neutomischel, Posen, Posen https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10582015

As Marcel said, it would help to see the entire page. If you cannot upload such a large image, you can provide us with a link instead.

Best of luck in resolving the puzzle,
