Hi Denise,

I see that you already have a translation from Barb, as well as a current map showing Chyzne in Poland. I am providing you with links to two additional maps. In the first one, circa 1860, you see your Chyzne and Piekielnik (spelled Pekelnik on this map) shown as part of Hungary, and in the second one from 1934 you see these towns in Poland (check out the upper right corner of the map).

In addition to that, by hovering your mouse over the "i" icon in the last column you can see that both the groom and the bride were from Chyzne, and that the date of their marriage was the 23rd day of February, 1897.

That's right, it's Hungarian. Never seen it before. The territories of the Austro-Hungarian Empire also included part of Poland.

Interesting, isn't it?

Geneteka has indexed only marriages for the years 1895-1903 for Piekielnik parish.

When I click on random scans, they are a language that is not Polish, German, Russian or Latin:

Typing a few words into Google translate, it suggests exactly what Denise has said, that this is Hungarian.

Have you ever seen anything like this in Polish records?

I have found a record in Geneteka that appears to be in the Hungarian language. The record is displayed in Malopolskie in the Piekielnik USC parish. Is this the proper place to ask for a translation of the record?
