I think both parishes are included on the film.

While I await the records, Maybe we can move my investigation of my grandfather along. According to his nephew, he was born in Jaslo Podlazie, in 1889. ( I described him in a previous post). When I look in the Family Search catolog, there are so many Jaslos. Where do you think I should focus?
t
Thank you for all your help.

I'm glad the microfilm is available and you already ordered it. As to your grandfather's place of birth and last residence abroad, please take another look at my first response to your post. The passenger record I found does not only give his last residence abroad and place of birth, but also the name of his father, Jedrzej Janik in Jasło-Żółków:
"... I assume you are referring to the passenger record of Wladislaw Yanik who arrived at the port of New York on Oct 15, 1912 on board of the SS Vaderland. Wladislaw Yanik was 23 ys old at the time, he was single, his nationality (country of which citizen or subject) was "Austria", race or people was Polish, his occupation day laborer, his last residence abroad was with his father Jedrzej Janik in Jasło-Żółków which is also his place of birth. ..."

I'm attaching a map for you that shows the location of Jaslo and Żółków.

Here is a link to a website of the 'Parafia Jasło-Żółków' (Jasło-Żółków parish with the parish address):
http://www.jaslo-zolkow.rzeszow.opoka.org.pl/index.php?id=6

And the Jasło-Żółków parish is even on Facebook which may allow you to get in contact with local people who may be able to help you in your research [unfortunately, it's only in Polish, but I'm sure some will speak English also]:
GREAT! If you look at the FIRST map I posted, you'll see that there is a Dabrowa Tarnowska very close to Olesno. So, IF we are on the right track, your grandmother's birth/baptism records should be either in the Olesno parish or in Dabrowa Tarnowska. Your next step would be to find out where the Olesno parish records are, in Olesno or in Dabrowa Tarnowska, and if they are available on microfilm. If not, you'll have to write to the Olesno parish [Parafia Świętej Katarzyny Siedziba, Olesno, ul. Długa 31a, 33-210 Olesno, Poland] to find out if they have your grandmother's birth/baptism records resp. where they are kept. They might be in Dabrowa Tarnowska.

I was able to find Eva's obituary. It lists her birth as Dabrowa, Poland and her maiden name as Piasnecki. No mention of siblings, parents names: the late Joseph and Franciszka Panek. The reference of Katowice cannot be verified. I am interested in your reference to her surname being Piasecki and I am trying to research that name to see if I can find any leads. Why do you think that is the real name?

Ancestry has not been helpful with this cause.
I have found 4 Evas: 1909 on the Cleveland, ;travelling to Illinois
1912 on the Cameronia (which is the one you indicated) Does Dabrowa fit with this one?
1909 on Kaiser Wilheim II but she was 36;

2 December 1913 on the New Amsterdam, but it is hard to read this record
Your guidance would be appreciated.

In checking the reocrds, an Eva Piaseck remained in the New Britain area until her death. The only other close match is in 1909 and this Ewa went to Chicago, Ill.
The only birth information I have on Eva is on the marriage record. I did find Katowice, Dobrawa Gorznicka in Family Search. I know this is a novice question, but How would I find her birth records?

One very important precondition for finding our ancestors' birth/baptism records is to find out where they originally came from, i.e. the village/town they lived resp. were born in before they emigrated to the US. The next step is then to find out which church they attended and where the parish records are kept. Where in Family Search did you find Katowice, Dabrowa Gorznicka? Can you post the link or the record you found? Do you know if your grandmother had siblings or other relatives that came to the US? Family members often settled together in the same neighborhoods as part of a "chain immigration" to a new country. If your grandmother had brothers, sisters, cousins, or parents who also came to the US, you can try to find their passenger records in the Ellis Island database to see which village/town they came from. According to the marriage record, Eva Piasecki's parents were Joseph Piasnecka [the correct name was most likely Joseph Piasecki] and Franciszka Panek. You can for example search the Ellis Island database for other Piaseckis or Paneks who entered the US, check their passenger records to see who went to Massachusetts and who they indicated they were going to join. Do you have your grandmother's death certificate and obituary? The death certificate may only indicate Poland as place of birth, but the obit can be very helpful in finding family connections, i.e. it may list the names of siblings or other relatives you didn't know about. All this takes a lot of time and patience, but it's often the only way to find out more about our ancestors and to narrow down where they originally came from.
I don't have a subscription to Ancestry.com, perhaps one of our members does and can check if Ancestry.com has your names and additional information in their databases.

After talking to family members and looking at the information I have, I still am not sure that this is my Eva.

I only remember my grandmother, Eva, with brown hair and blue or gray eyes. I do not know about a cousin in CT. I am checking with my uncle to see what he remembers. Here are some additional details:
In the 1930 census, she listed her immigration date as 1911, although I have seen 1910 as well. I have not been able to find 1920 census data for Eva and Walter. They may well have met in Chicopee, MA. Her parents were Joseph Piasnecki or Piasnecka and Franciszka Panek. She was born in Katowice, Dobrawa Gorznicka. According to the marriage record, she was 22 and born in 1892.

I hope that this additional information will help. Any suggestions?

The Eva Piasecka I found may of course be a different person, although some of the information seems to match. Do you know for sure from your grandmother's records that she was born in Katowice?
The attached map shows that Olesno and Medrzechow, the two villages I mentioned in my last response, are located very close to each other and to a place named Dąbrówka Gorzycka
I'm not an expert in locations, but Katowice does not match the information I found for the above Eva Piasecki. Perhaps someone else has any suggestions ...

Now that I understand that Jedrezej is Andrew in English it makes more sense. I am wondering if he exaggerated his age. On the marriage record in 1915, his age is listed as 22. I know I will also need help with my grandmother, Eva Piasnecka. So far I have come up empty handed. According to the 1930 census, she immigrated in 1911.

There is an Eva Piasecka in the Ellis Island database who arrived in the US on Dec 2, 1912 on board of the SS "The Cameronia" that sailed from Glasgow to New York. She was 20 ys old at the time (born abt. 1892), single, occupation servant, nationality (country of which subject): Russia, race or people: Polish. Her last residence abroad was with a friend C. A. Guade [?] in Maribo, Denmark, her destination in the US was Norwich, Connecticut, which is only 69 miles/112 km away from Chicopee, MA. They traveled in a group of three (a fourth passenger was listed, but lined out in the passenger record), all Russian/Polish, they were all born in Olesno, Galicia. Most likely they had worked in Denmark for some time.

According to the passenger record, Eva Piasecka was five feet four inches tall, her hair was blond, her eyes grey. She indicated that the passage to the US had been paid by a brother-in-law (name not given), and that she was going to join a cousin named Jozef Bednarz [?] (can't figure out his exact address.). A Joseph Bednarz, born abt. 1885, 22 ys old in 1907, married Appolina Ukleja, born abt. 1885, 22 ys old in 1907, on 06 Nov 1907 in Norwich, New London, Connecticut -- see https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F7P5-P5X He could have been the Jozef Bednarz Eva Piasecka joined when she arrived in the US. It looks like his wife Apollonia was baptized on 09 Feb 1883 in Mędrzechów, Mędrzechów, Kraków according to the Tarnow Roman Catholic Diocese Church Books, 1612-1900 -- see https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XPYL-W43 .

Did your grandmother ever mention a cousin with the name Jozef Bednarz, Olesno as place of birth, or that she had been in Denmark as a young girl?

Re Maribo, Denmark see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maribo

I assume you are referring to the passenger record of Wladislaw Yanik who arrived at the port of New York on Oct 15, 1912 on board of the SS Vaderland. Wladislaw Yanik was 23 ys old at the time, he was single, his nationality (country of which citizen or subject) was "Austria", race or people was Polish, his occupation day laborer, his last residence abroad was with his father Jedrzej Janik in Jasło-Żółków which is also his place of birth. His destination was Chicopee Falls, MA where he was going to join a cousin named Jakub Szczygiel [?].

On July 12, 1915 he married Eva Piasnecka in Chicopee, Massachusetts. According to the marriage record, her parents are Joseph Piasnecka and Franciszka Panek, his parents are Andrew Yanik and Magdalena Czyzawicz. See https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N4XZ-7S9

Why do you think the information you found doesn't match? Wladislaw Yanik's father's Polish first name Jedrzej that is given in the passenger record is equivalent to Andrew in English, the names and the rest of the information seem to match. Is it the fact that his last place of residence is (incorrectly) indexed as "Fokow, Austria" and his ethnicity as "Austria, Polish" here? -- https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JJTM-63X

Many of us were puzzled by this seemingly conflicting information that can be very confusing to those who are beginning to research their Polish ancestors. When I started family research many years back I also didn't know yet that at that time there was no such thing as "Poland" as we know it today. Until World War I, Poland was partitioned into three parts, the Austrian, Prussian, and Russian part. Jaslo belonged to the Austrian part, and a person born in the Austrian part was legally a citizen of Austria, regardless of his/her Polish ethnicity.

A website on Jasło-Żółków you'll find here http://www.jaslo-zolkow.rzeszow.opoka.org.pl/index.php?id=6

I am just beginning my research and I am trying to verify my grandfather's arrival in USA. His name was Wladyslaw (Wyadyslaw or Walter) Janik. According to the 1930 Census he arrived in 1912. His parents were Nadizic Janik and Magdalina Czyzawicz. I believe he was born in Jaslo (Podlazie) in 1889. He married Eva Piasnecki in 1915 in Chicopee, MA. After his arrival in US, his name was changed to Walter Janick. I found an entry for 1912 on the Vanderland, but it does not seem to match. The family lived for many years in Springfield, MA. Thank you for any help.
