Hello Ted,

This is what I read:

B. No. 4.
Witkowo on 7 September 1896.
Before the undersigned registrar appeared today for the purpose of marriage:

1. the laborer Stanislaus Kujawa, on known identity, of Catholic confession, born on 7 September 1874 in Witkowo, Kreisstadt [county seat], residing in Witkowo, son of the laborer Waltert Kujawa, deceased in Witkowo, and his wife Wladislowna [unsure about this name, looks as if her given name is missing] née Rytacka, residing in Witkowo;

2. the unmarried maid Hedwig Mikolojczak [the long comment on the right margin just states her name is Mikolajczak, not Mikolojczak], of known identity, of Catholic confession, born on 4 October 1874 in Zelatkowo [might mean Zelaskowo], Kreis [county] Witkowo, residing in Witkowo, daughter of the unmarried laborer Catharina Mikolojczak, deceased in Ostrowitte tremessen. [The short comment on the right margin states the words ‘residing in’ were deleted.]

As witnesses:

3. the mason Joseph Nowicki, of known identity, 40 years old, residing in Witkowo Dorf,

4. the mason Michael Racholski, of know identity, 25 years old, residing in Witkowo.

In the presence of the witnesses the registrar asked the engaged couple individually and one after the other whether they wanted to marry each other. The engaged couple answered in the affirmative and the registrar then declared that they were now legally joined in marriage under the Civil Code.

Read out, approved and signed.
[Signatures].
The registrar.
[Signature].

Best regards,
Michael

Thanks Michael, much appreciated.

Hello Ted,

This is what I read:

B. No. 4.
Witkowo on 7 September 1896.
Before the undersigned registrar appeared today for the purpose of marriage:

1. the laborer Stanislaus Kujawa, on known identity, of Catholic confession, born on 7 September 1874 in Witkowo, Kreisstadt [county seat], residing in Witkowo, son of the laborer Waltert Kujawa, deceased in Witkowo, and his wife Wladislowna [unsure about this name, looks as if her given name is missing] née Rytacka, residing in Witkowo;

2. the unmarried maid Hedwig Mikolojczak [the long comment on the right margin just states her name is Mikolajczak, not Mikolojczak], of known identity, of Catholic confession, born on 4 October 1874 in Zelatkowo [might mean Zelaskowo], Kreis [county] Witkowo, residing in Witkowo, daughter of the unmarried laborer Catharina Mikolojczak, deceased in Ostrowitte tremessen.

My only question is how do I narrow down my search within the pages of this thread?
For example, I conducted a search & found out that there is a translation for surname (Hiemer) that I am researching, however, there are 107 pages to sort through - how to I go directly to the page or section of this post threads to find the one page that I need? Curious??

Hi,

I am attaching a screen shot that shows you one way to narrow it down. You see in the search box I entered Hiemer which is probably how you also began. But the key parameter is below that, where I suggest you change the default from "topics" to "replies" where it asks how you want the results displayed.

Note: Be certain of your spelling. A search for Hiemer gets different results than a search for Heimer. I know you are asking about Hiemer because you have mentioned that name before, but I am just using this as an example of what to watch out for.

Hopefully this will get you to what you hoped to find,
The handwriting on this page is rather messy compared to others and I am struggling. Thank you in advance for any help!

Thank you for going into so much detail, Michael! This is wonderful. Very interesting about the Pontow name. I suppose it was bound to happen that a Pontow would marry a Pontow at some point; there seem to be lots of them in that area at that time!

I found the 1834 birth record too, but it appears that that particular Henriette sadly died only 10 months later. However, there is another Henriette (Ponto, no "w") born in June of 1836. I've got some work ahead of me determining if this is the right match, but this is a great start.

Thanks again!
Hi,
This is what I read:
Pontow zu Carolina / The widower Johan Stern from Neudorf and the widow Henriette Pontow, born Pontow, from Carolina

[I’m not sure about the maiden name of Henriette, but it looks to me as if a Pontow married a Pontow in her first marriage. There is a birth record in Schönlanke for Henriette Ponto, born on May 11, 1834, daughter of Johann Ponto.]

My 2x great grandfather was Gustav Emil “Gust” Stern born 1864 in Neudorf, Posen (Today: Nowa Wieś, Czarnków-Trzcianka). We know from his birth record that his parents were Johann Stern and Henriette Pontow. I found the attached marriage record many years ago (on this site https://szukajwarchiwach.pl, but I can no longer find it on the impossibly hard to use new version of the site!). The date is from 1859, and the location is near Neudorf, so I'm hopeful this is the correct record for Gustav's parents. Entry 15 is the line in question. I cropped out the bottom part of the sheet, but kept the top so you can see the headers and dittos. I also bumped the contrast quite a bit to make it easier to read!

What I can make out:
Left column: Carolina (I assume this place: http://www.kartenmeister.com/preview/City.asp?CitNum=24917)
Marriage date: 31 May [1859 not shown on this page]
Bride and groom: I can see "Stern," "Neudorf," "Pontow" and "Carolina" but can't quite make out the details of the rest.
Ages?: 43 and 24
Right column: Schönlanke (http://www.kartenmeister.com/preview/City.asp?CitNum=24946)

It would be wonderful if you could help confirm what I'm seeing, and also fill in the gaps. I'm not sure if Carolina or Schönlanke is the marriage place for example. I'm also happy to crop this down even more if you don't want all the extra stuff. Thank you!

Hi,
Here is a link to the wedding record of Johann and Henriette from the Protestant parish in Trzcianka - 31.05.1859.
I hope that Michael can help you with the translation of both.
Greetings!

Thank you!
