My father said there was something "unusual" about his dad's family, but never elaborated. Perhaps grandpa was an orphan or abandoned and then adopted. Maybe he found his family later in life, i.e., Władysław and Józefa, or they were his adoptive parents. I'll need to dig around some.

                                      Hi Marcel,
It is very interesting that the side note does not give Władysław's surname. Does that indicate to you that he was Władysław Żywicz and that he and Józefa were Edward's true parents? I would think that if Władysław and Józefa were adoptive parents, we would see their surname.
I do not know how to interpret this.

I've located the birth record for Edward Żywicz (#592) (https://metryki.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=pg&id=679&sy=1895a&kt=1&plik=0591-592.jpg) and am attempting to translate it and its annotation.

The record comes from the 1895 book at Holy Cross Parish in Warsaw. I think the baptismal record says the baptismal occurred at 10 AM in May (Julian calendar?) on either the 8th, 18th or 28th. His name, Edward Żywicz, is clearly visible and resides between slashes. I think the record says he was born and baptized on the same day.

The record has an annotation which one AI app said says:
Based on the order of the Presidium of the National Council in the city of Warsaw,
Department of Internal Affairs, dated March 17, 1954,
No. SP. II-4-451/54,
the names of the parents are entered as:
Edward and Jozefa, nee Kowalska
Warsaw, on March 18, 1954
Civil Registrar
(signature: Zgliczynski Stefan)

I've read that the annotation may mean that Edward and Jozefa adopted him and that the the annotation was added when he was getting his required 1954-ish Polish identity documents. I note that his church marriage record in 1923 says he was of unknown parents which would be consistent with an adoption - especially if he was unaware of his church birth record.

Any help extracting the key information from the birth record, especially his birth date and which calendar it is in, and understanding the annotation would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers -

Hi emz1,

Just to confirm for you that this is, in fact, the baptism record of Edward Żywicz, here is the page from the index from that same church book, that shows his name next to the record number 592:

https://metryki.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=pg&id=679&se=&sy=1895a&kt=1&plik=SkU-19.jpg&x=330&y=681&zoom=2.25

I cannot read Russian, but you can ask for a translation by re-posting your question in the very long thread called Russian Records Translations P.2:

https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=3525&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=5445

Simply scroll to the bottom of that page and enter your query in the box for "quick reply." It may take some time for a response, but that is a good place for your question to get noticed.

I disagree with one point that your AI app made about the annotation, specifically regarding the name of the father. He was not Edward, but rather Władysław.

Good luck!
Good day,

Cheers -
