Richard, Jan Łubniewski was my great-grandfather's brother from Jasenowka, now Belarus. We had a correspondence with him until 1950th. His niece Irena Łubniewski is still alive.
I am trying to locate any information at all regarding my relatives who lived in Poland.

My Great Grandfather was John Joseph Lubniewski, he was born 1 Aug 1890 in Jesienowka, Russian, Poland. He traveled to New York from Bremen Germany on a ship called the Grosser Kurfurst 27 Jun 1912 under the name Jan Lubrewski. The last place of residence listed was Wilna, Russia.

My Great Grandmother was Anna Mary Dentkosz, she was born 5 Jan 1893 in Lubla, Chighow, Poland. She traveled to New York from Antwerp on a ship called the Lapland 18 Apr 1910 under the name Anna Dentkos. The last place of residence was Austria, Kutow. I have multiple documents referring to Anna's maiden name but each document shows a different variation so I'm not sure which one is the correct one. I also have the following variations: Dentkos, Irentkos, Dentrose, Deithos and Deutkos.

I have absolutely no further knowledge of any relative before them and really have no idea how to proceed.

Welcome Richard,

I started with checking names and places. Then some notes.

1. Names
Łubniewski vs. Lubniewski
The probability is very high that your today name is without diacritics.
Today distributions show
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/%25C5%2582ubniewski.html 128 Łubniewski
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/lubniewski.html 5 Lubniewski

Dętkoś vs. Dentkos and variants
The same for Dentkos, today distributions show
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/d%25C4%2599tko%25C5%259B.html 110 Dętkoś
none Dentkos
none Dentkosz

The above may explain variants for Dentkos, nobody but Polish know how to deal with our diacritics ...

Actually I was seeking Dentkos in geneteka, and found only two answers for the whole database, two Dętkoś in Zasów, same voievodship as Lubla - Podkarpackie (that was in Galicja)
http://www.geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=gt&rid=A&search_lastname=Dentkos&exac=&from_date=&to_date=&w=09pk

2. Geography

Jasionówka
=======
The place is not Jesionowka, but Jasionówka, if you are Roman Catholic, the parish Jasionówka is part of Dekanat Korycin

http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasion%C3%B3wka_(powiat_moniecki)
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parafia_%C5%9Awi%C4%99tej_Tr%C3%B3jcy_w_Jasion%C3%B3wce
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dekanat_Korycin
http://www.diecezja.org/dekanat-korycin/
http://parafie.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=dk&dc=BIA&dk=379
http://www.poland.travel/en/religious-site-monument/the-roman-catholic-cemetery-in-jasionowka
http://www.radzima.org/eng/locality/jasionowka.html

Lubla
====
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubla
http://parafia.lubla.pl/en.html - Roman Catholic parish in Lubla, with beautiful pictures

I have no idea what could be Chighow

Kutow, Austria
=========
http://www.geshergalicia.org/towns/kuty/
Kuty, today Ukraine - also known as Kitev, Kutten, Cuturi, Kitov, Kutev, Kutow, Kutty

Once I had it I put it on today map, to have a global picture (no doubt they were traveling by railways to Bremen or Antwerp, not by roads)

Vilnus, Lithouania (in Polish Wilno)
Jasionowka, Poland (Podlaskie Voievodship)
Lubla, Poland (Podkarpackie Voievodship)
Kuty, Poland (today Ukraina; Galicja, Austrian Empire)
Bremen, Germany
Antwerp, Belgium‎

3. Notes

I wonder if Jan Józef Łubniewski met Anna Maria Dętkoś (actually her name could be Maryanna as well) in Poland or already in the US. The reason is that the distance between Jasionowka and Lubla is more than 500 km, not realy a social neighborhood.

To search for Lubla records in National Archives: search for Frysztak
http://baza.archiwa.gov.pl/sezam/index.php?l=pl&mode=showopis&id=25808&word=Lubla
They have birth records for 1889-1904
http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/search?q=Frysztak
Alas, it's not on line.

To search Jasionowka records in National Archives: search for Korycin
http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/search?q=Korycin
Not sure it includes Jasionowka, but they have some birth records for 1890-1908, nothing on line.

If your ancestors were Orthodox Catholics, this documents gives a lot of information about, including Jasionowka.
http://pdf.kamunikat.org/9045-1.pdf
Zapomniane dziedzictwo
Nie istniejące już cerkwie w dorzeczu Biebrzy i Narwi

Best,
I searched a little on the Łubniewski side, those connected with Wilno.

1.
Two homonyms, one of them well known professor, born in Dołhinów (today Belarus, not far away of Lithuania, a place which was part to Wilno district). His bio with photo is here http://wsa.dbc.wroc.pl/biogramy/dane/51.html
It is worth to mention that after WWII an enormous part of Polish population from Kresy (Eastern borders) moved or were displaced to the Western part.

2.
Jan Łubniewski born in Wilno district
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_%C5%81ubniewski

3.
Wincenty Łubniewski, soldier, settled in Puńki
http://www.wastan.pl/biblioteka/zbior/pdf/osadnicy_wojskowi.pdf

4. And eventually
Antoni Lubniewski, from Wilno area, history given by his son Steffan Lubniewski here http://www.freewebs.com/steffluby/

That story matches the one in my own family.
When I was child, one could not speak about, no written books, only broken hearts. Let’s remember it here, that whispered awkward memories of Polish soldiers imprisoned by Soviets.

==
Quoting Steffan Lubniewski:
“My father Antoni Lubniewski was born in Poland on 29th october 1918 in a village called Malmygi in the parish of Kurzeniec district of Wilejka in the county of Wilno which is now Lithuania/Belurus.”
…
“Then together with the Polish army units crossed the Soviet Iranian border and was evacuated to Iran, therby came under British command with effect from 01/04/1942, then via Iraq was transferred to Palestine arrived their on 29/04/1942 and was posted to the reserve of the commander-in-chief, Polish army in the Middle East, on the reorganisation of the Polish army in the Middle East was transferred to workshop company, 3rd Carpathian infantry division 2nd Polish corps, 8th British army.

On 16/09/1942 he was then transferred to light aid detachment type (a), 6th Lwowska infantry brigade, 5th Kresowa infantry division 2nd Polish corps 8th army.
On 11/12/1944 he served in the Middle East (Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt) 1942 to 1944 and in Italy 1944 to 1946, after the war he served in the United Kingdom until he was finaly honourably discharged on 04/12/1948.”
…
“He would never be allowed to return to Poland to see any of his family again because he would have been sent back to Siberia, many were arrested if they went back.”
==

2. Geography

Jasionówka
=======
The place is not Jesionowka, but Jasionówka, if you are Roman Catholic, the parish Jasionówka is part of Dekanat Korycin

http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasion%C3%B3wka_(powiat_moniecki)
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parafia_%C5%9Awi%C4%99tej_Tr%C3%B3jcy_w_Jasion%C3%B3wce
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dekanat_Korycin
http://parafie.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=dk&dc=BIA&dk=379
http://www.poland.travel/en/religious-site-monument/the-roman-catholic-cemetery-in-jasionowka
http://www.radzima.org/eng/locality/jasionowka.html

Lubla
====
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubla
http://parafia.lubla.pl/en.html - Roman Catholic parish in Lubla, with beautiful pictures

I have no idea what could be Chighow

Kutow, Austria
=========
http://www.geshergalicia.org/towns/kuty/
Kuty, today Ukraine - also known as Kitev, Kutten, Cuturi, Kitov, Kutev, Kutow, Kutty

Once I had it I put it on today map, to have a global picture (no doubt they were traveling by railways to Bremen or Antwerp, not by roads)

Vilnus, Lithouania (in Polish Wilno)
Jasionowka, Poland (Podlaskie Voievodship)
Lubla, Poland (Podkarpackie Voievodship)
Kuty, Poland (today Ukraina; Galicja, Austrian Empire)
Bremen, Germany
Antwerp, Belgium‎

3. Notes

I wonder if Jan Józef Łubniewski met Anna Maria Dętkoś (actually her name could be Maryanna as well) in Poland or already in the US. The reason is that the distance between Jasionowka and Lubla is more than 500 km, not realy a social neighborhood.

To search for Lubla records in National Archives: search for Frysztak
http://baza.archiwa.gov.pl/sezam/index.php?l=pl&mode=showopis&id=25808&word=Lubla
They have birth records for 1889-1904
http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/search?q=Frysztak
Alas, it's not on line.

To search Jasionowka records in National Archives: search for Korycin
http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/search?q=Korycin
Not sure it includes Jasionowka, but they have some birth records for 1890-1908, nothing on line.
