Thank you Gilberto, interesting link! My great-grandmother Rozalia Bryjak's father was Jozef Bryjak from Dlugopole, b. abt. 1825-1830, married to Katarzyna Jakubiec. I know that there were other Bryjak families in Dlugopole and the names Józef, Jan, Franciszek, Andrzej/Jedrzej, and Pjotr Bryjak were passed along to each new generation. Who was whose son can be very puzzling sometimes. I wonder which Józef Bryjak was Ferdinand Bryjak's (1911-10-09) father.

Kępanów still belongs to the Łapanów parish, see the parish website: http://parafialapanow.pl/ . Because your cousin Piotr was born in 1914 or in 1916, if only parish records survived, they are kept in the Civil Registry Office (USC) in Łapanów: http://www.lapanow.pl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=44 . If you proved your relation to Piotr you can contact them and as for extract of Piotr's birth record.

Thank you so much for the translation! The information I have for Pjotr Bryjak was given to me by a Bryjak descendant some years back and is not yet verified. It is also possible that the information you gave me now with respect to Pjotr's place and date of birth is correct. Pjotr's father Franciszek Bryjak was born 1875 in Dlugopole, and if the information I was given is correct and the connection can be verified (this is one of my future research goals), Pjotr Bryjak was my 2nd cousin 1x removed. Sad to hear about his fate.

Parents are correct, the town and date of birth are different - Kempanów and Łapanów. There is no such village as Kempanów in Poland but there is Kępanów, very close to Łapanów, see the map: http://goo.gl/maps/yHbQG In Polish, especially in the older language, "em" was used instead of today's "ę". Sounding of both is almost identical.

I think that for 99% this is about the same Piotr Bryjak. If he was victim of Stalin murder his biography could be distorted by purpose.

"Osoba zaginiona Imię: Piotr Nazwisko: BRYJAK Miejscowość: Kempanów Syn Franciszka i Marianny z Zegarlińskich, urodzony w Kempanowie 14.05.1914 roku. Brał udział w walkach z armią niemiecką we wrześniu 1939 roku w stopniu porucznika przy 27 pułku piechoty w Częstochowie, dalszy los nieznany. Sąd Grodzki w Wiśniczu Zg. 40/47."

I would like to know what it says. It looks like it refers to one of my Bryjak relatives from Dlugopole, for whom I have the following information: Pjotr Bryjak, b 1916 in Lapanow, Malopolskie, d 1939 in Oboz, Parents: Franciszek Bryjak and Maria, née Zegarlinska; Wojskowy, ofiara zbrodni stalinowskich.
