Actually, Daniel Paczkowski, genealogist, took me to see the Święta Lipka Bazylika on our way to Gdansk..must go back and inquire....Barbara is buried in Leman along with her sister, Marianna which we saw. Don't know first husband's name. I do speculate one or more immigrated...I reread your first response. Can't conclude anything because its a guess at best.

Hi Stephen,

You wrote here that you do not know the name of Barbara's first husband. However, from work that Trish did, you do already know his name: Jozef (Joseph). Rather than send you back to the same link that I provided above for our earlier conversation about this family, I will just quote here what Trish wrote at that time (everything in italics):

Bronislaw Zadroga's parents are Jozef Zadroga and Barbara Koszewska. Here is a link for Bronislaw Zadroga's 1911 birth record. Bronislaw's birth record is #22. Note that Bronislaw is a twin. Someone on the forum will need to translate it for you.

https://metryki.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=pg&ar=15&zs=0760d&se=&sy=2500&kt=6&plik=021-022.jpg&x=292&y=1831&zoom=2

Here is a list of some of the children of Jozef Zadroga and Barbara Koszewska.

https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=gt&lang=pol&bdm=B&w=10pl&rid=B&search_lastname=Zadroga&search_name=Jozef&search_lastname2=&search_name2=Barbara&from_date=&to_date=

Jozef Zadroga and Barbara Koszewska were married in 1902 - Record #9 - scan #114. Someone on the forum will have to translate the record for you.

https://www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl/jednostka/-/jednostka/17536613?_Jednostka_delta=20&_Jednostka_resetCur=false&_Jednostka_cur=6&_Jednostka_id_jednostki=17536613

I would add that these documents of births and the marriage provide solid evidence of Barbara's husband's name, whereas the story about her having a second husband does not have any documentation yet, only the word of the elderly woman you met.

I see that Trish has added an additional find, regarding Rozalia, which is very useful.
It has been difficult to check U.S. census as there are many Zadrogas. Background...

Meeting with the genealogist and I in 2023 with the parish priest at historic wooden Catholic church dedicated to Saint Roch built in 1925. He was looking for Barbara Zadroga's death certificate. The priest checked the death records for the years 1954-1963 and found no death certificate.
In the parish register from 1937, Barbara's family is listed in house number 63 (attachment)

1. Barbara Zadroga née Koszewski, widow, born in Leman in 1881.
2. Bronisław Zadroga, son of Barbara, born in Leman in 1911.
3. Rozalia Zadroga, Bronisław's wife, born in America in 1913.
4. Halina, daughter of Bronisław, née Ruszczyk, born in 1935.
5. Franciszek, son of Bronisław, born in 1938.
6. Antoni, son of Bonisław, born in 1940.
7. Stanisław, son of Bronisław, born in 1945.
The parish priest called the family who lives in the Zadroga family home and talked to a 92-year-old woman who remembered Barbara Zadroga and who said that before her death, Barbara's son took her to Święta Lipka to live with him. According to information from this woman, Barbara was married twice. Her second husband was Szczepan Zadroga.

Great info...appreciate it so much!!

6. Antoni, son of Bronisław, born in 1940.

Hi Stephen,

I recall we had a nice discussion about your Zadroga family some time ago. Here is a link to that conversation:

https://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?p=65310&highlight=Zadroga#65310

At the time, we did look at this page from the Leman parish register and interpreted the notations. Also, Trish and Barb were able to find graves for Rozalia and Bronisław. What is most helpful, looking at it again now, is the information from the 92-year-old woman who remembered Barbara Zadroga and informed you that she went to Święta Lipka.

You now are wondering whether some of the Zadroga family might have emigrated to the U.S. As you know, it would have been hard to leave Poland in the years following World War II as the communist government made it difficult to emigrate. Whether any of Barbara's grandchildren emigrated much later on, it's hard to say, but certainly none of them are going to show up in census records in the U.S. because 1950 is the most recent census that is available to search. Given the years of birth for Antoni and Stanisław, they may still be living. It can be hard to find information on living people, due to privacy laws, except through social media.

A question for you: do you interpret the 92-year-old woman's words to mean that her son Bronisław took Barbara to Święta Lipka and the whole group of them lived there for a time? Or do you interpret it that some other son of Barbara took her to Święta Lipka? I found some Zadroga names in the cemetery there. There are graves of 5 people, and while the given names match some of yours, the years do not (for example, there is a Bronisław born in 1881 whereas yours was born in 1911), and I interpret this to mean that people in your family kept naming their kids after other people in your family. Here they are:

http://mogily.pl/swietalipka/ZadrogaBronis%C5%82aw_1851866
http://mogily.pl/swietalipka/ZadrogaRozalia_1851867
http://mogily.pl/swietalipka/ZadrogaWiktoria_1852233
http://mogily.pl/swietalipka/ZadrogaSzczepan_1852234
http://mogily.pl/swietalipka/ZadrogaZofia_1852235

If you look at the photos of the graves, someone is taking very good care of them. Hopefully that means there are living relatives there still. I wonder if you were to contact the church in Święta Lipka then someone there may know a currently living Zadroga who would know the history of who came and who left.

Best of luck,
