Ok, thanks. I searched around and there may be a possiblity that they have this by blood. My GGF's son was born in 1917 and my mom then in 1946. So I hope there is a chance this may work for us.

You need to remember that Poland regained its independence in 1918, which means that your ancestor was not born in Poland as an independent country. If they left these territories before that time, you cannot document that they were a Polish citizen.

Yes, I was able to find that neither of them ever became naturalized citizens of the USA. They started it but it is in 3 parts and they both only ever did the first part and probably forgot about it or something. So that gves me some hope! I do not know f they had passports of how it was back then. I sent an email to some place in Poland about that but have not heard back anything. Are there centralized places to look for these records?

I filled out a few online quizes and they all reject me because they left in 1902/4. But they never renounced their Polish citizenship or obtained any other that we can tell. USIC or NARA have no such records that we can find, apart from part one of the naturalization process. So I hope there is some hope for this! Thanks so much again!

It is a long process and usually takes a long time. Unfortunately, it is not enough to have a birth record of your Polish ancestor.
You must have additional documents:
Birth and marriage certificates (both Polish and foreign) showing the line of descent.
Polish documents of the ancestor: passports, identity cards, military booklets, registration certificates, notarial deeds.

You can obtain Polish citizenship by descent if you are directly descended from a Polish ancestor (a Polish citizen). In particular, you may qualify for citizenship if your parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent was born in Poland before January 31, 1920 (even if they emigrated before Poland regained independence), or lived in Poland after January 1920 and never lost their Polish citizenship.

If your ancestor renounced their citizenship or lost it under the law in force at the time, the confirmation route may be impossible, and the remaining option is to obtain citizenship granted by the President.

Holy smokes! May I ask how you found that? I have some skills that I need to learn how to use!! That is amazing!!! I am planning a trip to Poland to see where I come from! And with documents like this it seems so much more real to me. Any idea how to get a real official copy of this? I sent emails about them to archives and never hear back. This took you a few minutes!!

I got his naturalization record and it took me about 8 months to find.

I appreciate that so much!! Now I have to try and learn where to get these all at? tx so much!!!!

This is his birth. I was think that as it is indexed it must be kept somewhere and hopefully able to have a copy made. I have to then try to prove that he held Polish citizenship after Poland became a country in 1918. Anyone know how to do that? Or where to find records? Then I have to find out if my grandfather born in the US in 1917 was able to get Polish citizenship which I hope would convey to my mom. I will say that it is super hard to find records with this genalogy!

Yes, I would like my GGF and GGM's birth certificates as they were located somewhere on the Genetica site and also their marriage license which was also found there. I seaerched on the Polish archives but could not find anything there. I hope to get official copies and may try for the Citizenship by descent. IDK if this will work or not as they left in the early 1900's. But they never naturalized as US citizens so maybe? Tx Brad

Does anyone know how to find, or where to even look, for Jozef's arrival or ship records when he came to the USA? Probably in 1900-1903? I have looked and failed. I am not sure how they recorded things back then or if the spelling of his name was changed? Also, does anyone know how to find if he had formal Polish Citizenship or a passport, and how USA citizenship was granted like naturalization records?

This is so hard for me to try to do and my mind is befuddled! Tx Brad

Brad,
Villages have no street names. There you can only find house numbers. Not all records are online. Then the only option is to write to the nearest archive in the area. Records from Maniowy are not available online, but the parish is indexed.
