Hi Sophia,
Yes, it is Tłuste near Ternopil. According to this marriage record, Paulina was born in Buczacz. Her mother, Frederica Kropp, likely had German ancestry. Paulina’s maternal grandparents were named Franciszek and Anna Langenfeld. I found her siblings in Buczacz and hope to find her as well soon.
According to Genetyka there are many more surnames Berezowski than Berczowski that were indexed.

Thanks for posting their marriage record! Was the record from the Tłuste near Ternopil?

I see how the handwriting of the marriage record supports your reading of it as Berezowski. I will just add that Herby.com does show Berczowski as a surname, although used by far fewer people than Berezowski.

Looking at this marriage record, I need to correct my earlier spelling of the surname of Paulina's mother's maiden name. It is Kropp, not Krap.

It is possible that he was Anna’s brother. Remember that Paulina’s father’s name was Kajetan, so this could well be your relative. I will go look for his baptism record.

Just a quick response for you this afternoon. I've got your place name: Zwarzycze

If you look at the snippet of a map that I am attaching, it is a very small distance northeast of Stryj. If you'd like to look at the entire map, it is here and you'll spot Stryj in the lower left-hand corner:

It appears that Stryj (now called Stryi in western Ukraine) enlarged over time and what was Zwarzycze is now just part of Stryi. You can see on the maps Verchany in today's Ukraine was Wierczany on the old map, and Dobryany was Dobrzany. That should help you see where your Zwarzycze would be on today's map.

The record of Anna's birth is from the parish in Stryj, specifically the Roman Catholic parish. Here is a link to birth records from there:

Dear Sophia,

Thank you for responding to my question and providing me with the names on the document. Jan's last name is Berczoski aka Brosco. Unfortunately, I too, could not decipher the handwriting.

I did find document on the genteka site with Anna's parents listed. Attached is a photo of my findings. I did try a search on their site to locate more information but was unsuccessful reading the documents. Perhaps you can translate?

Welcome to the forum!

This record is written in Latin and while I am not the best helper on this forum for Latin records (that would be Dave), I will try to assist you with the names. It would be easier to help you if I knew where this record was from because then I could look at what surnames are common in that parish. It can be helpful, when posting records, to provide a link to where you found the record if it was found online, or else an image of the whole page so it is easier to study how the writer formed their letters when writing.

The person being baptized is Anna Maria and the abbreviation in parentheses following her name is confirming for you that she was given two names. Beneath her name is the abbreviation "Ob" telling you who her midwife was, Maria with a surname that is a little hard to decipher. It could be Danecka, I'm not sure, and it's probably not important to you.

Anna Maria's father's name is written as Joannes, which in Polish is Jan and in English is John. You probably know the surname already. Does it begin with D? Derzanowski? Jan's mother's name was Antonina B. Anna Maria's mother's name looks like Paulina Pleczynska, the daughter of Kajetan Pleczynski and Frederika Krap.

I'd be happy to take a second look if you could give me more to work with.
