Hi Chris,

You did not mention which email address you tried. The one that I can see is:

aab@archibial.pl

The website for Archidiecezja Białostocka also gives a mailing address and various phone numbers, should you choose to go with either of those routes of communication.

Best regards,
Sophia

P.S. I have seen one source online that gives a different version of this email address, with the addition of a letter "d" that perhaps is a typographical error.

Good afternoon:

Looking for sime further help as i received these 2 responses :

1.) In response to your letter, the National Archives in Krakow Branch in Tarnów informs that the records of the local Branch do not contain registry records from before 1890. We would like to inform you that the state archives take over duplicates of registry records from the territorially competent registry offices, which have been created in the Austrian partition since 1890.

In the case of the registry certificate you are looking for, we advise you to contact the appropriate parish or the Diocesan Archive in Tarnów (address: 3 Katedralna Street, 33-100 Tarnów, tel. 14 622 34 23, e-mail: arch.diec.tarnow@gmail.com). We would like to mention that the village of Grudna Górna belonged to the parish of Siedliska – Bogusz (then Pilsen County) in the time period you are interested in.

At the same time, we would like to inform you that the local Branch does not have in its resources population censuses, voter lists, conscription lists, tax lists, registration books and documentation concerning identity and passport cards for the village of Grudna Górna (now Dębica County, Brzostek Commune) from the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.

We also encourage you to use the www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl website, where you can find information about the resources of our Branch and other state archives.

If you have any questions or doubts, please contact the local Branch of the National Archives (123705618) by e-mail or phone. Person in charge of the case: Anna Szczerba.

Sincerely,

Branch Manager
Anna Drąg-Sukiennik

2.) Dear Sir.

The city of Białystok – the capital of the Archdiocese of Białystok – is located 570 km from Tarnów!

Even for American conditions, it's quite far!

Kuźnica, which you mention, is probably a village where the border crossing with Belarus is located.

Of course, the Diocesan Archives in Tarnów cannot have any documents concerning Kuźnica in the Archdiocese of Białystok

With due respect

Fr. Jacek Słowik

Any idea where I should now look fir this birth certificate.

Chris

You can write an email to the Archiwum Archidiecezjalne in Białystok and ask if they have birth records from the Kuźnica parish for the period 1886–1889. It is most likely that Stanisław was born in 1888.Alternatively, these documents might be located in an archive in Vilnius (Wilno). You will certainly get reliable information from the archive in Białystok regarding whether they can be found elsewhere.

Obtaining Polish citizenship is a long and quite complicated process.

Hi:

Thanks for all the help - can anyone tell me the quickest way to obtain this birth certificate. Once I have all the proper paperwork / documents what would be the fastest way to obtain a Polish Passport.

This confirms the information in my previous email. Based on that, I was able to trace three generations. Unfortunately, I can only view birth records starting from mid-1889. Your Stanislaw was born in 1888, and since I do not have access to records prior to 1889, I cannot view it.

Iwanowce in the Kuźnica parish is the right place. I am attaching a list of children baptized in Kuźnica between 1889 and 1893. Birthplace of Stanislaw born in 1890 is Iwanowce.
Chris, do you know the names of Stanislaw's parents? Is it Kazimierz and Marianna nee Kibilda? Maybe you know the names of his siblings?

Sophia, could you check Stanislaw's last permanent residence from Manifest? I read it as Iwanowce. Iwanowce belongs to Odelsk parish, and Odelsk is located 10 km from Indura. This would strengthen the theory from my previous post.
In field 29, his place of birth is also mentioned, which is the same as his last place of residence.

Hi Barb,

You're right that Stanislaw's last permanent residence on the first page of the manifest is the same as his place of birth on the second page of the manifest. For what it's worth, the traveller two lines below Stanislaw has the same last residence and place of birth. I agree with your reading of it as Iwanowce although the handwriting is not the clearest. I will point out that where it is written as the last residence, it is written twice as if it were the name of both the village and the gmina (or volost, if that is the correct name for that level of government in that place at that time), like so: Iwanowce, Iwanowce, Grodno, Russ[ia]. That is odd because there was no such volost by that name. Even so, you may be on the right track for figuring out where Stanislaw's records could be found.

Hi Chris, Trish and Barb,

It makes absolutely no sense to me that St. Stanislaus church has Grudna Gorna listed as Stanislaw's place of baptism. Is there any possibility that Grudna Gorna is where Stanislaw's wife was from, instead? There is no connection between Grodno and Grudna Gorna. Chris, can they provide you an image of the record where they are reading this from?

Best regards,
Sophia
