Geneteka lists 130 HELTA, all of them in pomorskie province and mostly in villages around Brusy and Skorcz.

Yes, I found church records for Nicolaus (born Sep 1858) and his siblings in Brus. They are written in German language. He emigrated around 1884. Family stories say that he couldn't find a wife in America to help him farm the property. He went back to Poland and found Franziska, who was said to be living in the area. She is obviously of German descent. I assumed that she might not be Catholic. Any idea of how to pronounce Gelta? Would it sound like Helta or Heldt to someone in the USA?

Roseanne~ There appears to be a Zalesie 2 mi. north of Brusy Poland on the road to Radun (accent mark on the n). Didn't find when searching Zalesie, but when I searched Brusy Poland and looked at the Google map that showed up, there was Zalesie just outside of Brusy. Have you found Polish churhc records for Nicolaus? I'm not familiar with this area of Poland. Assume if she was Catholic in US, she was probably born Catholic. ~PL

Can anyone lead me in a new direction to a family link for Franziska Gelta, my Gr-grandmother? Was this surname Americanized from Helta, Heldt, or Helte? What religion?She was born about 1864-1866 and married Nicolaus Dombrowski in Nebraska or Iowa. He was born in Brus, GerPoland; now Brusy, Poland. Catholic here, her death record lists father’s name as Frank Heldt. I have viewed over 20 LDS films & the Geneteka web site but can’t seem to find any birth record or family link. My nearest match was a death record (Lesno, Radun) for Vincent Helta, husband of Josephine Rzepinska & father of Franciska. I have a copy of a low quality photo of Frances with her mother and two sisters, most likely taken in Germany/Poland before she came to USA. Two readable words on the back are Grosmutter and Maria. Thanks for any new leads.
