Today, Poland celebrates Polish Flag Day simultaneously with Polonia Day honoring Poles abroad. As President Komorowski noted, “The Polish white and red flag binds us across borders, across seas, throughout the huge expanse of geography and history.” So on this day, we want to wish all of the Poles and Polish Americans and the many Polonia organizations continued success and thank you for your efforts to preserve your history, culture and traditions.

Hello Aga, I stand corrected. I found reference from the Polish Art Center, "Swieto Polonii - Polonia Day (May 2): In 2002, the Senate of the Republic of Poland set aside May 2nd as a day to honor the world-wide Polonia which happens to coincide with World Immigration Day. All types of activities promoting Polonia’s history and achievements are very much in order. Since this year it falls on a Friday, it can be nicely combined with Third of May celebrations to form a Polish Weekend". I mentioned this to my Polish friends and they never heard of it so yes we need to make everyone aware. Thanks Bill

Hello Bill! I have also a whole big part of my family that emigrated to Chicago they come from Podhale region, and as I know Chicago was a very popular destination for Górale.
You are right - Constitution Day is today - 3rd May, but 2nd May is other case - celebration established in 2002 and that day is dedicated to Polonia all over the world.

Immigrant Poles and Americans of Polish heritage living in USA are a part of worldwide POLONIA, the proper term for the Polish Diaspora outside of Poland. The Constitution of May 3, 1791 is correct date. Poles have been a part of the history of Chicago since 1837, when Captain John Napieralski, along with other veterans of the November Uprising first set foot there. There are 1.5 million Polish and Polish/Americans in Chicago alone.

Today is 2nd May - the Day of Polish Diaspora and Poles Living Abroad.
There are roughly 20 million people of Polish ancestry living outside Poland, making the Polish diaspora one of the largest in the world!
May this special occasion help to strengthen the sense of Polish national community across borders and across ideological divides.
