Thanks for the copies, I am excited to see what info I can get from them. I have not seen or had access to them before now. As always I am excited to get access to any records since church records are not available.
Hello Phil,
I will copy the Habas obituaries for you in the next few days. I’ll also share my Bryja(k) database with you, but first I have to update it a little, add some recently discovered information and revise older data, which may take a while.
Phil, the Chicago Tribune Historical Archive has some Habas obituaries (e.g. of Anna Myrda, sister of George Habas and Regina Niedielski, who passed away on March 23, 1967). If you are interested in seeing them, pls. let me know. - Ute

                                      Thanks again Gilberto and Ute. After looking at the handwriting of the surname and comparing it to handwriting on the same manifest I think the name is Kloba. As Ute stated there is a Jan Klobe in the Ellis Island database, also there are several Klob and Kloba listed from Jablonka, and there is a Jablonka located a few miles west of Morawczyna. I agree the name is not common, I have never come across it before in my research.

I was aware of the Bryja - Habas connection after they had emigrated to the US but do not have any evidence of any prior connection.

I do know there is a Myrda - Habas connection because I have recently learned that my great, great grandmother's maiden name was Myrda.

I have seen the Bryja - Habas marriage records before and also noticed Bryja misspelled several ways. If I remmeber right I did see it spelled Ryjo. Ute, I would be interested in seeing your database if you don't mind sharing it with me. Also I thing Wojciech Habas could possibly be a cousin to my grandfather Wincenty Habas.
Phil,
what I'm reading is:
Line 26 - Bryja, Anna, last residence Morawczyna, Nowy Targ, Galicia, with father Melchior (?) Bryja, going to join sister Marya Bryja, 42, Will Street, Chicago; [see link re: the name Melchior -- http://www.babynology.com/meaning-melchior-m78.html
Line 27 - Bryja, Katarzyna, last residence Morawczyna, Nowy Targ, Galicia, with father Jakub Bryja, going to join brother Jan Bryja, 42, Will Street, Chicago;
Line 28 - Duda, Anna, last residence Morawczyna, Nowy Targ, Galicia with mother Katarzyna Duda, going to join father Jozef Duda, 34, Holt Street, Chicago;
Line 29 - Habas, Mary, last residence Morawczyna, Nowy Targ, Galicia, with father Jan Kleba (or Kloba), going to join husband Wojciech Habas, 28, Holt Street, Chicago.

Mary Habas's father's name is the one I'm having problems with, the first name looks like Jan or an abbreviation of Johann, the last name looks like Kleba (or Kloba), which would have been Mary's maiden name, since Habas is her married name. A 19 year old Jan Kloba, nationality Austria-Polish, immigrated to the US in 1904, he’s of course too young to be Mary’s father and the place of residence is also illegible -- Gh...boka – but at least the name exists. However, as far as I know Kleba or Kloba are not Podhale surnames. I’ve searched some databases for a Kleba/Kloba-Habas connections but did not come up with anything convincing so far.

But I found a Wojciech Habas (misspelled Woycich Habas) from Morawczyna (misspelled Merawnicza) who immigrated to the US on March 10, 1900. He traveled with Stanislaus Myrda from Morawczyna who indicated that he was going to join his brother in law Kons. Koczur at 42, Will Street, Chicago which seems to be Wojciech Habas’ destination also. Anna and Katarzyna Bryja’s destination in the US was 42, Will Street. A 33 ys old Constantin Koczur arrived in the US on March 04, 1899 indicating that he was going to Chicago, he may be the Kons. Koczur Wojciech Habas was going to join.

Here is the info given in Wojciech Habas' passenger record:
Given Name: Woycich Surname: Habas Last Place of Residence: Merawnicza Date of Arrival: 10 Mar 1900 Age at Arrival: 30y Ethnicity: Austrian Port of Departure: Hamburg Port of Arrival: New York Gender: Male Marital Status: S US Citizen: Ship of Travel: Palatia.

I have Bryjak ancestors in the district of Nowy Targ (my paternal great-grandmother was Rozalia Bryjak from Dlugopole), and since I was interested in learning how the different Bryja(k) families were related to each other, I created a database of all of the Bryjaks and their descendants I could find who emigrated from the district of Nowy Targ to the United States. Many of them settled in Chicago, where they had (and still have) numerous descendants. When I saw your post and saw the name Bryja, I checked my database and guess what, the same address that Anna and Katarzyna Bryja indicated they were going to go to when they immigrated pops up again: 42, Will Street, Chicago. A Jan Bryja (22 ys old at time of marriage, born abt. 1883) married an Aniela Habas (22 ys old at time of marriage, b. abt. 1883) on 31 May 1905 in Chicago. I found birth records for some of their children that give the family's residence: Jakub Bryja, born 16 May 1905 in Chicago, 45, Fay Street, Jan Bryja, born 30 March 1907 in Chicago, 42, Will Street, Zofia Bryja, born 30 March 1907 in Chicago, 42, Will Street, Boleslaw Bryja, born 01 Mar 1909 in Chicago, 1272, Augusta Street; Franciszka Brya, born 29 Aug 1912 in Chicago, 950, Will Street , and Edward Bryja, born 07 Aug 1915 in Chicago, 950, Will Street . So the Habas and Bryja families are definitely related to each other!

I agree with MaryAnne about Katarzyna's surname: www.stevemorse.org Gold Form shows some more Dudas from Morawczyna. As to Jan's surname I also think it starts with a K (see, for instance, Katarzyna above), though I don't think it is a KL. I did not find anything similar among the surnames of those who came from Morawczyna.
Mary Habas is listed as being married so Jan's last name would not be Habas. Does the first letter of Jan's last name look like it could be a K ? Possibly Kl ?

I think that Katarzyna's last name is "Duda"
(There is a comma and then the capital G frome Galicia that is from the previous line that has dropped down on the word)

I also see "Jakob" on line 27

The first letter of "Nowy Targ" sure does not look like an N--however, Morawczyna is in the administrative districe of Gmina Nowy Targ-within Nowy Targ County-so it may just be sloppy handwriting, or the writter mis-understood what was being said?
I am having a hard time deciphering names of parents on right hand side of manifest. Can someone read the names of the parents? This is what I can read:

Line 26                father  (?)  Bryja
Morawczyna Nowy Targ(?), Gal
Line 27                father (?)  Bryja
Morawczyna Nowy Targ(?), Gal
Line 28                mother Katarzyna (?)
Morawczyna Nowy Targ(?), Gal
Line 29                father Jan  (?)
Morawczyna Nowy Targ(?), Gal

Thanks,
