Hello,

In my family line there lies a mystery; that mystery is the family name of Gandor. I have very little information of the ancestor and am wondering whether anyone here knows the origin of the name. All I know is that he was born in Hungary. After researching, the country with the highest density of the surname shows to be Poland. Despite this, it doesn't sound Polish to me, but, I have no more knowledge of the Polish language and culture than a rock. Is the surname of distant German origin? I thought I heard somewhere, though I lack confidence in my accuracy, that he was German. It is, after all, similar to Ganter, a German surname; and even closer is the surname Gandorfer, also seeming to be German. I am very curious, as most of my families origins are known to me except his.

Thank You
