The Dziennik Chicagoski 1930-1971 Death Notice Index has Cencula, Franciszek, who passed away 4 Jun 1940, date of notice 5 Jun 1940; and Cencula, Zofia with a note: see Felder, Zofia who passed away 9 Nov 1945, date of notice 10 Nov 1945. She may have been remarried to a Felder after Franciszek Cencula died.

According to the Marriage Index for Polish Parishes in Chicago through 1915 a Cencula, Frank married a Stercula, Sophie 1-20-1903 at St. John Cantius Church. According to the church marriage record Franciszek Cencula was from Stare Bystre in the district of Nowy Targ, his parents were Tomasz Cencula and Maryanna (last name not given); Zofia was from "Richy"* in the district of Nowy Targ, her parents were Wincenty Sterkula and Marya Zazycka. Witnesses were Jan Cencula and Stanislaw Stopka.

Has anyone heard of a place named "Richy" in the district of Nowy Targ? I assume it is "Ciche". The last name also could be Styrcula instead of Sterkula.

I'm glad I was able to help you, and there's no reason to apologize for your impatience. I’m sure many of our members of PolishOrigins have made the experience that family research is a time consuming process that often takes years, and many of us know this impatience. When you post a query, you can be lucky and someone will respond and have information on the family names you are researching or will direct you to sources where you can will find it, but it's not guaranteed.
Sometimes there is simply no information available online, and that's why nobody responds to your query.

You have some good leads already and you should really write a letter to the Czarny Dunajec parish to see if they have records on your family. The address is Rynek 34, 34-470 Czarny Dunajec, Poland. I’m not sure, but I think the name of the church is Holy Trinity. Second writings should be in the Krakow Roman Catholic Archives, ul. Franciszkanska 3, 31-004 Krakow, Poland. Your letter has to be in Polish (there are Polish letter writing guides on the Internet or perhaps one of our members can help you with this).

Have seen Bill Rushin's forum section on “Polish Gorals – Highlanders” that you will find here: http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewforum.php?f=29 and Shellie's thread that holds a lot of information on Czarny Dunajec that I'm sure will be interesting to you. There's a surname list associated with Czarny Dunajec and I saw the family names Kednerce and Kendzirski [Kedziorski??] in that list. I've been trying to help you with your family research, but the information available online is limited, and trying to find out if and how the families are related, if there were any siblings, aunts, or uncles, and if there is a connection between the Chicago and the Ohio Cenculas with what is available through the Internet requires a lot of time and patience and still may not be successful. To find answers to the questions you have about your ancestors you will have to write to the parish that your ancestors most likely attended before emigration. The Stare Bystre and Podczerwone records should be in the Czarny Dunajec parish, where the Koniowka and Piekielnik parish records are I don't know. I hope one of our members knows and can also give you the address of the Czarny Dunajec parish.

In my previous post I told you that I found a church marriage record for Andrzej Cencula and Rozalia Kedziorska according to which Rozalia Kedziorska’s parents were Pawla/Pawel (Paul) Kedziorski and Katarzyna Haberna [Chaberna]. According to the marriage record, Andrzej Cencula and Rozalia Kedziorska were from Czarny Dunajec.

At the Ellis Island site I found the following Haberna emigrants who were from Podczerwone, Koniowka, and Czarny Dunajec, while the Cenculas emigrants I found last time were from Stary (= most likely Stare Bystre), Pekelsick (= most likely Piekielnik), and Czarny Dunajec:

I am looking into my family history. My great-grand parents came from a small town called Czarny Dunajec, Nowy Targ, Poland. My great-grand father was Andrew(Andrzej) Cencula and my great-grand mother was Rozalia Cencula(Kendzierski). Andrew's mother was Agnes Cencula and no findings of his father. Andrew came to America in 1898 Baltimore MD then to Mt. Pleasant PA then to Chicago Ill. and then finally settled in Ohio. I also have located a group of Cencula's in Illinois and trying to find out if we are related. The only link that I can find is Sophie Cencula was my grandfather's, Michael F. Cencula's godmother,she was from the Chicago area. I also was wondering if Agnes had any other relatives that would have came to America and settled in Chicago. Any help that you can provide would most helpful. Thnak you so much!!

Witnesses were Stanislaw and Jozef Chaberna.

In your profile you wrote that your great-grandfather Andrew Cencula was from Miedzyczerwienne and came to America 6/13/1898. I have not found any Cencula immigrants from Miedzyczerwienne so far, but a number of records that hint at Stary (= most likely Stare Bystre), Pekelsick (= most likely Piekielnik), and Czarny Dunajec in the district of Nowy Targ: http://g.co/maps/hyrbx
Miedzyczerwienne is a little further south.

Helena Cencula was accompanied by her son Rudolf Cencula, 11 years old, same information as above, Source: New York Passenger Arrival Lists (Ellis Island), 1892-1924, Manifest Line Number: 0017.

I also found the following marriage licences:

According to the marriage licence, church marriage was on 16 May 1893 at St. Stanislaus parish (Vincent Barzinsky, pastor of St. Stanislaus parish, Chicago). I couldn't find the church marriage record yet.

Church marriage was on 9 Sept. 1901 at St. John Cantius Church, Chicago (Rev. Stefan Dybkowski.)
According to the church marriage record, Michal Cenculawas from Stare Bystre, his parents were Tomasz Cencula and Maryanna Pietka. Witnesses were Franciszek Mierzwa and Bronislaw Rybowicz.

- Mrs. Zofia Cencula to Tisch Hansen (Illinois, Cook County Marriages, 1871-1920):

Zofia Cencula is indexed as Mrs. Zofia Cencula, I assume she was widowed. It seems there was no church marriage, the marriage licence is signed by Dean Franklin, Judge of the City Court of Macomb City, and there is no additional information regarding a church marriage.

As to your great-grandfather Andrzej Cencula -- he may have first settled in Chicago, and later moved on to Ohio. There are some census records and also some obituaries in the Chicago Tribune Historical Archives for Chicago Cencula families that I can send you if you think they will be helpful in your research.
