Hi, Ute

I think you are right. The Jednachowski/Jednachowska presented in Geneteka database are all from this area.

LLoyd,
what is the name you are looking for?
Go to http://www.ivona.com/us/
on the Voices List menu near the top of the page select one of the five Polish flags (male and female voices)
insert the word Tczew in the field and click play to listen to it.
A word of caution:
when using this software to listen to polish words, make sure to type them with the proper polish characters.

There is a Kaszew (sounds kashew) near Kalisz. It is located about 30 miles -as the crow flies - from the old province of Poznan.

However, the name appears frequently in pomorskie province.

The correct spelling of her name is Jednachowska (the masculine form is Jednachowski, the family group is Jednachowscy).
The name appears frequently in pomorskie province (west Prussia) what makes me think the place could be Tczew, 10 miles south of Gdansk.
I'm currently doing genealogy research on my maternal side. I recall my mother always mentioning that our Polish ancestor was (and I'm not at all sure of the spelling) "Kashew". Apparently my GGM was from a village on the Austrian or Prussian border, which was constantly changing hands. Her surname was Jednachoska. Does anyone have any information on whether "Kashew" refers to a geographical area, or if it refers to a sub-cultural group? Thanks for your time.
