Hi Joe,

I am by no means an expert and not sure if this helps, but looking at a Polish dictionary from 1861 I have found the following.

lulka: henbane
lulek: henbane or pipe
lulać: lulled
lula: babies cradle or a clumsy man (which may relate to the side effects of taking henbane)

Greetings:

My ancestor's surname is found in various records as "Lula" and "Lulla". I'm wondering if there would be circumstances, for whatever reason, where some variation such as "Lulkowski" might have been ascribed by whomever recorded the event?

I have a record where the first names, relative ages, date of event, and location all makes sense, but the spelling of the surname is quite different.

I have another ancestor line of the name Duczak, and have found variations ranging from Dudek to Dudkowski.

Could the same thing be happening with "Lula"?
