Hi,
John Shiner/Jan Szajna (1884-1947) was my uncle, my father's older brother. John arrived here in 1902 from Haczow, Poland but was born in Babica. He was married to Catherine Hozempa (1889-1927) and they lived in Edwardsville, PA. It seems that we are looking for different people with similar names living in the same area.
Hi,

Are you aware of the Geneteka database in Genealodzy.pl?
You can also check who is looking for these surnames and places and send a message to them (after registering).

Hello, all.

I am trying to locate any information on my mother's father's side. Our immigrants were Jan/John Kreft and his wife, Anna Czapp(a) of (John stated) Germany but I believe they were Kashube. They arrived through Baltimore, I believe, with their children, Anton, Genevieve, Anna (Anastazia), John, and Martha. They then came to Detroit. John, Sr. was in the US before bringing his family over. I have been able to find nothing except the ship manifest. John died in 1915 and his death certificate lists his parents as John Kreft and Mary Behlow. John was born October 30, 1853. I have found no siblings but believe families in his community may have been cousins in Detroit. Both he and Anna are a mystery.

I am also trying to locate more information on my maternal grandmother's family, Wdowiak. Her father was named Josef Wdowiak. We recently found two siblings who came here; Wladyslaw and Anna (who came under the name Anna Drost in 1910). Anna settled in Passaic, NJ and we believe Wladyslaw, who used the name Walter, died during WWI. Jozef lived in Wilkes-Barre, PA and died of Pneumonia in 1934. I did have someone write to his birthtown, Stary Nart, Rszezow and received his sister's son (John...who was born illegitimate) baptismal certificate. It lists the parents of Jozef, Anna and Wladyslaw as Jan Wdowiak and Sofia Iskra. Josef was born March 15, 1880.

My grandmother's mother's side; her mother was named Kordula Korzepa. She was the daughter of Ewa Korzepa and John Stroub and was born before they married. Ewa and John also had a daughter, Mary, who was legitimate. She also came to America. Kordula's baptismal certificate shows that her parents were unmarried at the time of her birth and that the baptism took place in Tarnow. She was born May 11, 1887 and I believe she arrived in 1902 under the name Katarazynia Chorzempa and heading to August Rebisz in Edwardsville, PA (August was friends with Josef Wdowiak).

My mother's father's side again: Michael (Mikolai) Malinowski and his wife, Anna Skowronska of Lidzbark, Poland. Arrived May 5, 1892 on the SS Stuttgart in Baltimore, MD and headed to Detroit with his wife and children. Their daughter, Pelagia, was my great grandmother. Mikolai/Nikolai/Michael was born December 15, 1845 and his wife was born February, 1857. I have banged my head against the wall over all of these families. Finding info on just one would probably make my year.

I realize that this is an awful lot but I thought, perhaps, someone in Poland may see this and have an easier time than I have had with trying to figure the family out. I'm hoping a few of their siblings remained behind to be found and reconnect. Poland is on my Bucket List.

I thank you in advance and your consideration. I look forward to interacting and helping where I can.
