I'm curious about the surname "Goc", from my 5th-great grandmother Maryanna Goc. She lived in Łęg Probostwo parish, just Southwest of Drobin. The surname shows up in parish records with so many variant spellings. Like Gocz, Gocak, Goscicki, Goszczicki, Goszczynski, etc. It's also quite popular in other parts of Poland. I tried to look it up, and the closest thing I could find was gość, which I guess could mean anything from "guest" to "merchant". Does anyone know what its meaning or origins might be?
