I am wondering about the movements of my Polish family in the 1940's.

My grandmother was born in Radomysl Wielkie, Poland, in 1940. My grandmother was the baby of the family and recalls as a young girl her mum going shopping in Kiev which is near Radomyshl Ukraine. Did the German troops move Catholics from Radomysl Wielkie Poland to Radomyshl Ukraine (then USSR)? I have heard something from family history but can't confirm it anywhere online.

A few years later my family moved to Germany where my Aunt worked cleaning trains. She reflected on being bunkered in a hospital when air raid sirens were blaring and the Russian soldiers being nicer than the American ones (very situational, I'm sure, so no offence to anyone).

Our family speak Polish but know some German words and songs.

After the war, in 1949, they emigrated via Bagnoli Camp, Italy, to Australia. They intended on emigrating to USA but people on the boat were sick and they disembarked at Australia.

I'm trying to piece together those years. Who occupied the area at the time? why did they move so often?
