Also wrote a long description of Mum's journey from Gulag to Karachi 1940-1943 but don't know where it's gone..... did I post it on someone else's page? I wanted all to see it.

Thanks also for the links. Mum definitely joined Anders Army as a nurse.... but instead of ending up in Tobruk (was in 5th Division) managed to go to Karachi. A cousin had sent a message...."Don't come to Tobruk!"

What I could not understand is what were these polish people doing in USSR, if the WWII was still going on on August 1942?

What were Polish people doing in Teheran in 1942? Skiing, shoping and vacantionning!

It is certainly related to Anders Army, with plenty of political deals. Those born in 1914 - one hundred years ago - and who were vacantionning in USSR during WWII, then going pedestrian throu Iran to Palestine, are no more.

Gdy ze wzgledu na szczuple rozmiary "Wiesci Polskich" drukowanie jej na lamach pisma musialoby trwac niezmiernie dlugo, doceniajac znaczenie tej listy dla naszych uchodzcow, ktorym moze ona pomoc w odszukaniu najblizszych, uspokajajac zarazem co do ich losu, postanowilismy wydac ja osobno w formie powielanej broszury.

Lista ta zawiera nazwiska od litery A do E. W miare otrzymywania dalszych list kontynuowac bedziemy dalszy ciag tego wydawnictwa w terminie najspieszniejszym. Otrzymane przez nas listy sa sporzadzane na maszynopisie I zawieraja badz bledy badz niedokladnosci, ktore trudno sprawdzic. Podajemy wiec otrzymane spisy bez zadnych zmian w obawie, by poprawki czynione przez nas nie wprowadzily ewentualnie dalszych jeszcze niejasnosci.

Ze wzgledu na oszczednosc miejsca wprowadzone sa w spisie, przy zachowaniu stalej kolejnosci informacyj, pewne skroty. I tak: podane jest nazwiski I imie ewakuowanego /nej/, rok urodzenia oraz miejsce pobytu w literowym skrocie. / A. - oznacza Afryka, T. - Teheran, I. - Isfahan./ Przy nazwiskach, przy ktorych nie ma oznaczonego miejsca pobytu, miejsce pobytu wskazuje litera umieszczona przy jednym z poprzedzajacych nazwisk. Za scislosc informacyj nie moze, oczywiscie redakcja wziac odpowiedzialnosci.

Zaznaczyc w koncu pragniemy, ze listy ewakuowanych z Rosji Sowieckiej rodzin polskich podawane przez nas z innego zrodla, a zawierajace nazwiska bez alfabetycznego ukladu, zamieszczac bedziemy w dalszym ciagu w naszym pismie.

From the Editor

Recently we received a list of Polish families evacuated from Soviet Russia containing several thousand of names. When due to the tiny dimensions of "Wiesci Polskie" any print as part of the letter would need to last for very long, and appreciating the importance of this list for our refugees, to whom it can help to locate loved ones, reassuring at the same time as to their fate, we decided to publish it separately in the form of photocopied booklet.

This list contains the names starting with the letters A to E. When receiving further letter we will continue to publish further lists as fast as possible. The lists we receive are transcript and contain also inaccuracies or errors, which is difficult to check. We give it to you so that you receive the lists without any changes for fear that amendments made by us could introduce even further ambiguities.

Due to the savings in printed space, while keeping constant the order of information, some abbreviations have been introduced. And so: we give the surnames and name of evacuated person, year of birth, and place of residence in letter abbreviation. / A. - means Africa , T. - Tehran , I. - Isfahan ./. When a name is with an empty place of residence, it means the place of residencet is the same as above, at one of the leading names. Concerning the accuracy of information, the editors cannot, of course, take the responsibility.

Finally, we want to state, that we will continue to publish in our newsletter the lists of names of Polish families evacuated from Soviet Russia, served by us from other sources, containing names without being sorted in alphabetical order.
