Maybe, but in the place name that starts with T, I don't think the second to the last letter with the tail below the writing line looks like the K in Milwaukee which is most definitely all above the writing line. Hopefully others will give a look for other opinions - Gilberto and Ute are usually very good at figuring these things out. ~PL

Bisgaard was having difficulty in making out a Polish town beginning with a
T. I think that the place she is looking for is Tarasowka. which presently is in
the Ukraine, Parish of Zbaraz, near Tarnopol. The Mormons have microfilmed the parish records apparently from 1835 to 1865. This locality was part of Poland before WWII and then annexed by the Soviet Union after that. Jim

bisgaard~ I sure can't make out the name, but there are others here who are much better at this. Hopefully they'll give it a look. Have you found Clement's naturalization papers? Sometimes the actual name of the village is listed. The 1910 Census says he's filed papers and the 1920 Census says he's naturalized. Ancestry has a Naturalization Index card for him that's indexed as a Sept. 13, 1913 naturalization date, but the image of the index card says Sept. 13, 1912 for date of naturalization, filed in the Milwaukee Circuit Court.

Also if he and Josephine were married in the Catholic church, the church marriage (not civil) record may name his village. ~PL

I can't make it out. If anyone would be so kind to take a look, and needs to see the whole manifest page, it is here http://tinyurl.com/orxpgtj Clemens is on line 12. The Ellis Island website has the village indexed as Torm... Ancestry.com has it as Tornovza,. I actually thought it looked like there was a v in there too, though I know there isn't a v in the Polish alphabet. I thought the first vowel could be something other than an o, but I'm not sure.
bigaard, are you aware of any other relatives of Clemens that emigrated from the Austrian partition of Poland? Maybe they were from the same village, and the village name would be easier to read on their manifest pages. Actually, he is going to his cousin Josef's in Milwaukee, but I can't read Josef's surname either...

Thank you Cheri, this is the first time I have seen the law spelled out so that I could understand it! I can't believe how quickly you responded with data that backs up you opinion.

Again thank you,
One of my US born relatives married a man who wasn't naturalized at time of their marriage. She lost her citizenship and, after her still unnaturalized husband's death, applied for repatriation.

Yes, it's true. It's also true that there was a period time when a woman who was a U.S. citizen lost her citizenship when she married someone that wasn't. After 1922 a woman applied for her own citizenship. I had been confused by that. My grandparents, both born in Poland, married in 1917 (in U.S). My grandfather became naturalized, so I thought maybe my grandmother wouldn't have had to go through the process. Since he didn't become a citizen until the 1930s, I guess she would have had to apply for her own citizenship. Here's a detailed article from the National Archives on this subject: http://tinyurl.com/ykhgjv

My Grandmother was born in Brzyska Wola Poland in 1890. She came to the United States in 1903 and she married my Grandfather in 1909. I have been told that due to the fact that she married my Grandfather (a U.S. citizen) that she became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States.

Does anybody know if this is true, back in 1909???
