I have not found the origins of this surname, however this might come from Polish wierzyć- „to believe" or wiara "faith".

Kurmas is from old Polish, dialect word karman, korman which is sukmana, a type of traditional coat worn by peasant in Poland.

Have heard that "Kurmas" may be a Lithuanian name, not a Polish name.
