Exactly 20 years ago most important event in the modern Polish history took place: the first (almost) free elections to Polish parliament after WWII. It is a date when communism in Poland fell down Then it spread out in the whole Eastern Europe.

Today we celebrate this event in Poland. And today, after these 20 years, Polish economy in times of the global crisis has the highest national product growth in the whole Europe (1.9% GDP y/y) while most of the countries in the world experience sever decline of its economies, even -20%

You can read more about this historic event from point of view of two main actors of those times: Wojciech Jaruzelski and Lech Wałęsa: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/05/21/aoc.poland.jaruzelski.walesa/index.html .

Abstract from the article:
"(...)By 1989, Solidarity had become an unstoppable social movement, sweeping to victory as the communist authorities relinquished their grip on power by allowing free elections. Walesa describes the union as a screw turning in the opposite direction to the communist regime, ultimately "destroying the engine."(...)
