I just discovered this page and I am looking forward to getting in contact with relatives.

I am a daughter of Tomasz Tadeusz Lubniewski born in 1924 in Vilnius, passed in 1976 in London.

HIs family had a very hard time in Lithuania, first bolsheviks so nazists. He arrived in England during WW2. Names I recall from his stories are Antoni, Zyzniewo, orp. Blyskawica.

Kind regards

Łubniewski family is coming from Budslaw and Dolginovo in the Wilno governorate of Poland. Now this territory is in Belarus. My grandmother is also Łubniewska.

I think we could be related. My grandfather was Anton Lubniewski. His wife's oldest sister was married to a Zezniewski. They were all from Vilnius. IIn 1920 Anton revisited Vilnius and was imprisoned by the Soviets who tried to ransom him. He spent 8 months in prison before he was released and able to return back to his home in New York. He suffered a lot and was said to have never been the same. Anton died 14 years later .

Kamila,

orp. Blyskawica is a famous Polish Grom-class destroyer which served in the Polish Navy during World War II and is the only ship of the Polish Navy awarded the Virtuti Militari medal. It is preserved as a museum ship in Gdynia, the oldest preserved destroyer in the world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ORP_B%C5%82yskawica

Was your father with Polish Navy at the end of WWII? (he was born in 1924, so it could be at the very end)
Did he had friends from ORP Błyskawica?

ADDENDUM: I made a blind research for ORP Blyskawica and Antoni.
Found Antoni Kiedziuch on a pic from April 2013:
https://www.facebook.com/178467635497501/photos/a.559217334089194.97552987.178467635497501/781741631836762/
Łapsze Wyżne
Antoni Kiedziuch ostatni raz na swoim okręcie ORP Błyskawica
http://www.udskior.gov.pl/Nekrolog,sp,ppor,mar,Antoniego,Kiedziucha,751.html
Is this name familiar to you?

Żyźniewo is in the North-East of Poland, close to Mazury, but quite a long distance to Vilno - 360 km. It is not and never been a suburb of Vilno (not to mention borders in communist era, and the fact that Lithuania was part of Soviet Union). I was traveling by car from Warsaw to Vilno in 2003, after the Soviet Union collapsed, but before European Union. No single car on the border but ours, and two hours awaiting until someone from the border comes over to ask you for papers. Then 1 hour later stamps your passeport.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%BBy%C5%BAniewo
Nevertheless Żyźniewo might be a key to your father's past after WWII.

I made a search in straty.pl for Lubniewski (cannot copy URL with results, stupid):
http://www.straty.pl/index.php/en/szukaj-w-bazie
Got a list of 20 lines, most of them are Łubniewski, one or two from Żyźniewo.

Do you know friends of your father in the UK? Maybe their memories could help.

I wish you succes,

This is a very limited information... There is a small town called Żyźniewo near Lomza: https://goo.gl/maps/l8k8K but this is far away from Wilno.

What is interesting, Lubniewski is a very rare surname. There are only 8 persons bearing this surname in today's Poland, see the maps of distribution of the surname: http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/lubniewski.html and http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/lubniewska.html .

As you can see, there are a few at the Baltic sea in Wejherowo and Puck counties and individual in Szczecin, Katowice and Warsaw. Unfortunately, there is no one listed in phone book.

Do you think is it possible that your father could be Łubniewski with the Polish "Ł" at the beginning? There are around 300 of them living in Poland but no one near the Żyźniewo.

The best thing would be for you to try to find more information in official documents of your father. Birth record of your father is not publicly available because of privacy law in Lithuania which states: The part 5 of the article 20 of Law on Documents and Archives of the Republic of Lithuania determines fixed restrictions on access to the documents which contain information on person’s private life, as well as to structured sets of personal data - 30 years after the person’s death, and in the event of failure to determine the date of death – for a term of 100 years from his birth.

If you visited Vilnius personally as the member of family you could get access to the record, if only it survived. If you wished, we could help in organizing such research trip.

Thank you so much for your kind replay and your time and effort, dear Sir. I am very grateful.
I know exact date of his passing and birth as recorded in England. I know he used the surname Lubniewski, spelled with L. It could be though altered in England to L.
It is such a big puzzle all of it, isn't it?
I do agree I need to take a trip to Vilnius one day. I also need to check the Zyzniewo in Poland just for the sake of checking the factor x.
All I know he had a big love to Mazury and was a contrahent for some modern hotels there during the 70 ties. THat is why I need to check Zyzniewo in Poland.
It can also be that Zyzniewo was a suburban area to Vilnius once upon the time.
So I need to check both.
It is all a mystery for me.
Especially as he told me most of his family suffered a lot between 1917 - 1945.
I am a daughter and can proof it so I hope Lithuanian government will help. BTW. what a restrictive practice they have in Lithuania.

From my own very simple google searches I can see there were many people immigrating to USA and Europe with this name.

I am very grateful and hope we can stay in touch, dear Sir as I do need to clear this things up.
I know this is a big puzzle.

Kind regards and be well

                                      Hei everybody

I just discovered this page and I am looking forward to getting in contact with relatives.

I am a daughter of Tomasz Tadeusz Lubniewski born in 1924 in Vilnius, passed in 1976 in London.

HIs family had a very hard time in Lithuania, first bolsheviks so nazists. He arrived in England during WW2. Names I recall from his stories are Antoni, Zyzniewo, orp. Blyskawica.

Kind regards
