I had to find some paperwork that my mother had, and yes I spelled the name incorrectly. It is FIJALKOWSKI. Thank you so much for the information on both sides. I do know that the Fijalkowski's were from the Lowicz area which I hope to visit during my trip to Poland.

Thank you so much!

Hello again Jannie,

First and foremost, are you sure that in the Fiajkowski surname there is 'i' after 'a'? Or maybe instead of 'j' there should be Polish letter 'ł' - Fiałkowski?

According to professor Rymut database there were no people using surname Fiajkowski in 2002 in Poland.

I will try to write you what I found about both possible variations of your surname.

Fajkowski from Polish fajka - „pipe (for tobacco)”.

In 2002 there were 413 people using the surname Fajkowski living in Poland. More than 12 lived in neighboring with Łowicz county Kutno. Detailed map can be found here https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Fajkowski .

Fijał;- Fiał-; Fiałkowski from old Polish fijał - „fool” or fiałka - „violet”.

In 2002 there were 975 people using the surname Fiałkowski living in Poland. Detailed map can be found here https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Fia%C5%82kowski .

In 19th century there was one noble family:

Fiałkowski coat of arms Ślepowron v. Krowin from Kurlandia (today's Latvia)

Lip-; Lipiński from Polish lipa - „linden tree”. It my also derives from places names like Lipsk or Lipno.

It is quite popular surname in Poland. In 2002 there were almost 12000 people using the surname Lipiński or Lipinski living in Poland. Detailed map can be found here https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Lipi%C5%84ski and here for Lipinski https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Lipinski .

In 19th century there were 9 noble families using this surname in the whole old, big Poland

These are the last names of my mothers parents. I am very interested in the origin of Fiajkowski (this was her mothers maiden name who came from Lowicz).

Thanks, Jannie
