Thank you Elzbieta. That is unfortunate. Apparently mine missed the index for both his marriage and his death. Or they happened in a place that isn't currently indexed (I think Nidzica fits that bill).

Hopefully they will add more Ndizica records at some point as it looks like that must be where they died and likely where they married. Though I will go through the Janowo deaths and see if I can spot their names, in case they missed the index because I don't see why they would go back to Ndizica when they were so settled in Janowo.

NOTE: it is strange that on the death record of Antoni Maluchnik, with declarant Tomasz Olszewski, his mother is said Anna born Olszewska, while on the above it is Katarzyna. Alas, no record on line, so impossible to verify.

That is odd. A step mother maybe? And I just realized despite what I thought in my post right before this one, I probably cannot rule out this, or any records with a different widow then Karolina Naplowowska. It could be possible she died before him and he remarried. Edit: You posted that that Antoni married his wife in 1897. Since mine had a child with Karolina in 1903, this one is ruled out for sure as being mine.

Elzbieta, thank you for the translation. Was hoping it would be mine. Another I can rule out I guess.

You and SirDan and everyone else have helped so much already. The last thing I can think of is I know I've already gotten so much help, but would you be willing to look at these 2 records of Antoni maluchnik and see if Karolina Naplowska is the widow in either. Probably not with my luck. But is my last hope.

http://metryki.genealodzy.pl/metryka.php?ar=6&zs=0673d&sy=1910&kt=3&plik=59-62.jpg#zoom=1&x=140&y=954 record 60

http://metryki.genealodzy.pl/metryka.php?ar=6&zs=0104d&sy=1908&kt=3&plik=260-267.jpg#zoom=1&x=320&y=1835 Record 263

If one of those isn't mine, then I guess I will have to wait until more Ndidicka records are added. The marriages prior to 1874 aren't online yet and mine must have married before then as they aren't listed in the index between 1874-1878. (Earliest child born there in 1877 according to their death record, though I cannot find the birth record in Ndicka, however I likely didn't look as good at the births as the marriages.

I also want to note how amazing it is that the records I need to piece everything together are always missing. My Antoni Maluchnik and his wife karolina Naplowowska may have married in Ndicika and had their first couple of children there, but they definitely should have died in Janowo as last known child was born to them there in 1903. Talk about frustrating! Maybe I am just not meant to find out.

One more question I have and I cannot believe I didn't think of this sooner. Would a death record for a male in Poland have the name of his wife on it? I am thinking maybe I could find Anton Maluchnik's death record and if it has his wifes name Karolina Naplowowska on it then I know I have the right one and can get further back finally. There are Antoni Maluchnik deaths in index, unfortunately none in Janowo and no matches of right date in that state, however 3 in mazowieckie http://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?rid=D&from_date=1903&to_date=&search_lastname=maluchnik&search_lastname2=&rpp1=0&bdm=D&w=07mz&op=gt&lang=pol I am most interested in the one with father Jan, however mothers name is not Małgorzata Olexix.

Lyn,

Here is this Antoni Maluchnik's death record. The death record contains what witnesses were declaring. Sometimes it is very poor, sometimes very precise, like this one. It is possible that the declarant Tomasz Olszewski and Anna born Olszewska are siblings, i.e. the declarant is uncle of Antoni Maluchnik.
SirDan, Thank you for the info on the manifest. I do still think it's mine, most likely. As I mentioned there were 2 Jan maluchnik's in Chicago, but I think the other one isn't mine as they are heading to a father Josef. However the other Jan Maluchnik in Chicago's father was Julian according to their birth record, so no idea why that doesn't match either. Thank you on the tips. I don't know if I looked into Krzynowłoga Mała Parish or not. I know I looked at some Krzynowłoga Welka records as thats where the Alexandra whom I think was on the boat with my August was born. Wonder if they are near each other.

Thank you for all the info Elzbieta! That makes me think this must be my line. Twins run in my family and my grandfather Stanley Maluchnik was a twin and he had another set of twin siblings as well. I'm not sure why there is no Antoni birth record but perhaps they forgot to register it at all? And I don't see why they remembered to register one twin and not the other, maybe he was sick and they thought he was going to die or something. Confusing. Maybe Antoni was a twin himself and parents only registered his twin as well.

Hey Lynn, if i read manifest above correctly, Jan Maluchnik comes from Rudno. There are three Rudno-... villages in Krzynowłoga Mała Parish (mazurskie Wowewództwo): Rudno-Jeziorowe, Rudno-Kmiece and Rudno-Kosiły. Jan was heading to Ludwig Gronowski. I found Ludwik Gronowski on ellisisland who was coming from place transcribed as Maryanow, wchich could be Marianowo.

I made mistake earlier saying Maluchnik is rare name, its quite popular when one start to search for it. But there is a method in searching: finding all interesting Maluchnik in USA and trying connect them, finding parents and grandparents, or excluding from family etc. That way you learn more and maybe find connection eventually.

For more finding, must also check out Mazurskie in Geneteka. And especially Krzynowłoga Mała.

Thank you for the translation Elzbieta! Thank you for all the additional info on their children as well. That's interesting that one chose to immigrate to France.

Thank you for the info on the manifest Looking For Clues. I had wondered if that meant Antoni traveled with him, so it's good to know that likely belongs to another passenger.

Thank you for looking for Antoni in Janowo Sirdan. I wonder if he was born in Ndizicka. The Maluchnik's definitely didn't seem to stay in one parish as they are all over when you search. At least confined to Mazowieke and Warminsko-Mazurkie though.

Months ago I looked through all of ndizicka's marriages from 1874-1878 and did not see any Maluchnik's. There was no index, but not many records so it didn't take me long. I do wish there was an index of names or a working search so I could be positive I didn't mislook it. I don't see why none of the Ndizicka records are indexed yet the Janowo ones are. I will have to go back through and take a second look but I think I was pretty through.

I also looked at some late 1870's births and could not find any Maluchniks, though I was not as through with that.
Earliest known child was born 1877 according to death record and latest known child was born 1903 so I thought for sure marriage would be between 1874-1878. There must be earlier born children that I don't know about. It seems unlikely with last child born in 1903, but it must be the case. That or they happened to have earliest child in Ndizicka yet married elsewhere. I wonder if they will ever add records before 1874 for Ndizicka.

To add to the confusion some of the Maluchnik's born to Antoni and Karolina Naplowowska ended up in Chicago (birth dates on draft records match up). There are other Maluchnik's in Chicago that I was able to trace back and I still cannot find a connection to mine. For example a Katarzyna Catherine Maluchnik was born April 27, 1844 in Zembrzus Mokry Grunt, Warminsko-Mazurskie, Poland and died June 18, 1934 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA . I researched her and found many siblings, but no Antoni. Her parents Jan Maluchnik and Malgorzata Oleksik had many children from 1835-1852. Another of the children Jan and Malgorzata had was a son Julian. Well, Julian had a son Jan/John born February 2, 1886 whom also immigrated to Chicago. So that is who the other John Maluchnik in Chicago is. I just wish I could find how he relates to mine. Unless it's a coincidence that mine ended up in Chicago like these ones. Maluchnik isn't a very common name at least not now or in the US but maybe it was back in 1800 Poland. Anyway I think this is my John's passenger manifest: http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/engine/gold.html?username=031027023001021011024014046002030021012028065013010030&password=014000006022007017002022088081064&pid=102256120217&type=passenger he is heading to cousin Ludwig Golembieski? in Chicago Oddly enough the other Chicago Jan Maluchnik is heading to father Josef in Chicago, not father Julian. So more confusion. If the surname mine is heading to is Golembieski then it would have to be a 2nd cousin on his mothers maternal side (his mothers mother is Katarzyna Golembiewski). So maybe perhaps the Maluchnik's in Chicago are 2nd cousins as well. Without finding my Antoni's birth or marriage guess is no way to tell.

If I'm remembering right wasn't polish tradition to name the eldest child after their paternal grandfather? So given fact the fathers name for that Kataryzna Maluchnik was Jan would that mean I likely have the right family and that Antoni's marriage and birth just both missed the index or happened in another parish after 1852? Otherwise guess they must be cousins of some sort whom kept in touch. Also still not sure how that Alexandra on the boat with August is connected to mine, upon tracing her back I found no connection (other then Janowo parish) to the Chicago ones or mine though I did find she had a great great grandmother with the surname Oleksik, however maybe that was a common surname.

Looking at the passenger manifest that Sirdan found for Ludwik, http://libertyellisfoundation.org/passenger-details/czoxMjoiMTAyMzc1MTIwNjI2Ijs=/czo4OiJtYW5pZmVzdCI7
the name Antoni MAY go with the passenger above. The manifest itself just shows the name Budzikowski in large print taking up most of that line. On the indexed names he shows as Antoni Budzikowski

Thank you Sirdan. That solves the mystery of who Ludwik was and explains why I could not find him in any censuses! That is weird though on Antoni's name being writen above his.

I have not gotten much further since my last post. Of course I now know the parents were Antoni Maluchnik and Karolina Napałowska, but no luck finding the births that occurred outside of Zembrus or their marriage record. Checked on the updated site just now, and records I need still seem to be missing. But, I think if I'm understanding right the search does not include the Nidzica records. Am I right in thinking the Nidzica parish records are not searchable?

I did manage a while ago to trace back the ancestry of the Alexandra Maluchnik with father Frank who was on the boat with what seems for sure to be my August, but I could find no connection. Frank did not have any brothers or cousins named Antoni unless it's just not coming up in the search. Although there is a death record for Frank's sister Marianna Maluchnik and no birth record comes up for her. I also did determine Frank and Anna married in Janowo parish even though Alexandra wasn't born there. And Frank's fathers name is Pawel, but Pawel's fathers name is Augustyn, so I would think somewhere there would be a connection to mine. It's amazing how my direct ancestors manage to be so hard to find.

Hello again Lyn. Sorry to not remeber all corner cases of this thread, but as i expected, some more records apperead on geneteka. Here it is Ludwik Maluchnik http://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?rid=A&from_date=&to_date=&search_lastname=maluchnik&search_lastname2=napa%B3owska&rpp1=0&bdm=A&w=14wm&op=gt&lang=pol married Apolonia Modłkowska in 1904. His parents were Antoni and Karolina Napałowska. He was born in Róg as probably other siblings. Here is his ellisisland manifest http://libertyellisfoundation.org/passenger-details/czoxMjoiMTAyMzc1MTIwNjI2Ijs=/czo4OiJtYW5pZmVzdCI7 one year after marriage came to USA. Couldnt find manifest of Apolonia Maluchnik, maybe Ludwik came back to Poland in short time. Also there is Antoni name written over his entry, don't know why. Is this Maluchnik Family what You looked for?

Later finding: There is Ksawery Maluchnik born 1909 in Janowo Parish. His parents were Ludwik and Apolonia Maluchnik. So, definitely he came back to his wife in Zembrzus, Janowo Parish. There are more children, also Bronisław born 1905, Ludwik definitely tied to his bornplace.

Thank you for the info Dave, I've seen that mentioned before as the gmina (not sure what exactly that is) but hadn't thought of that yet. You are right...nothing seems to line up just right! I've still gotta find birth records for them all, just in case some have different mother or father to explain the discrepancies.

Thank you Sirdan. That was a great find! And very surprising. I wonder why they moved there temporarily? Very odd. I assume they married in Janowo parish as Magroski posted a marriage record of theirs in another topic I made months ago. At the time I wasn't thinking it was them due to Marianna's birthdate seemingly not matching, different mothers surname and lack of other siblings in the parish. He mentioned "I could read the age of Antoni and Karolina in that marriage record. He was 40 y.o. (and she was 2Cool (lol it translated whatever age was into an emote on his), therefore born about 1848. I then looked from 1845 to 1850 and could not find Antoni's birth record." I suppose this implies the family moved around a lot? Wonder why. Antoni was supposedly a carpenter according to Mary's birth record, so maybe he couldn't find work in his village I guess. Otherwise I don't understand why they would move across a border into what I assume you mean was controlled by a different government at the time? Was that common? It almost makes it seem like they moved just to have the children elsewhere.

Any idea where I can find the parish records for najdenburg parish so I can find their records? I hope their online. Also, good that they had a child named Frank...leads more credence to the other ones I found being cousins I think. Sad they had 2 children (twins?) die the same year though. And Jan/John must have been an important family name as well. They had one die in 1886 and named another one that in 1888edit: found them: http://metryki.genealodzy.pl/ar17-zs0893d knew that name looked familiar lol was right below the janowe ones. Hopefully my ancestors are somewhere in them edit: these are the ones with no index, but organized by birthdate I believe. Think I looked before for my ancestors and couldn't find them. Their birthdates must be wrong. Guess I have to go through each one and see if I can spot the name Maluchnik anywhere. Not sure if this page here is a sloppy done index or what? http://metryki.genealodzy.pl/metryka.php?ar=17&zs=0893d&sy=1892a&kt=1&plik=zzz.jpg#zoom=1&x=1671&y=1109

I believe Magroski also found and translated births of Jozefa born 1895 and Jozef born 1898. There is Jan being born in 1888 too in zembrus. So...I guess the parents must have moved back and forth a few times, and only had the Maluchniks I knew of (except for marianna) in the years that they resided in the other parish. My records have Ludwig (only have passenger manifest of and no birthday so not checked for his record) born 1880, August born 1881 or 1882, Anthony born 1885, and Stanley 1892. I'll have to look through zembrus parish again tomorrow in case I'm missing them, but maybe they are in the other parish. I really wonder why the parents were moving back and forth like that.

Lyn that would be interesting... if you put two names in search field Maluchnik and Napałowska then we have http://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?rid=A&from_date=&to_date=&search_lastname=maluchnik&search_lastname2=napa%B3owska&rpp1=0&bdm=A&w=14wm&op=gt&lang=pol we have death records of Jan and Franciszek >>put mouse pointer on info icon, message will mean they would be born in Róg, Najdenburg parish, Królestwo Pruskie.

PS: Róg, near Nidzica. Oh wait, Róg is just in today Janowo area, but at that time there was border just between Róg and Ryki-borkowo. This is crazy. What if all people born in Królestwo Prus are in different archives? They must have been under Prussian partition - thus in Nidzica archives/parish?

Maryanna's manifest also provides info. Her last place of residence in Poland was with her father in Zembrusz and she was going to August Maluchnik in the USA. The place of birth on her naturalization papers is listed as Pszasnyc which is almost certainly Prasnysz---the gmina where Zembrusz is located. All the located documents don't make your search any easier since the particulars hardly ever agree. It was not unusual for places of birth to be given in different ways on different documents---more specific (the village) to more general (the parish, the gmina, etc.). Just a suggestion...since you've not found the siblings birth records in the logical places, perhaps it may work out to look in the surrounding parishes. My take on the Petition for Naturalization is that she gave the info orally and it was typed by the clerk M. Banks, a person who probably typed what he heard or perhaps Maryanna spelled place names for him as well as she was able thirty years after she left Poland.

Those ancestors sure didn't give you an easy row to hoe.
Thank you very much for translation Elzbieta. Looks like that record likely isn't mine either as birth is over a month off they are likely a cousin.

Thank you Sirdan. Just found Maryanna's nat papers. Had her husbands nat petition, but didn't have much info on her. This seems to have more.

Edit: Wow. Birth record with one born October 30, 1890 must be hers. It's very close to what nat papers say. Not sure why she put wrong date for her marriage or where Pszasnyc poland is tho or why she put mother on her marriage license as Helena Krajewska when it's Karolina Napalowska. I guess she must not have known her mothers maiden name and put what she thought it might be. Stanley's marriage record has mother of Karolina Krosky and Anthony's death has mother as unknown, so guess she must have died young or something. Not sure why I've not found the other siblings....guess their birthdates must be off by a few years as well, I'd only checked the years immediately before and after they were supposedly born. I guess now all I have to do is find any children with names Anthony, Stanley, and August born of same parents and they must be mine, birthdates don't have to line up as they must have often lied or not known their birthdates without really having to think?

When looking again my ancestors in Westmoreland i found records of Maryanna Sokolski. Quite heavy online records source here http://www.co.westmoreland.pa.us/index.aspx?NID=1572

Sokolewicz is a second name (nick) that family Sokólski used https://www.myheritage.com/FP/genealogy-search-ppc.php?lang=PL&type&action=person&siteId=149299891&indId=1500253&origin=profile

There is a town Sokoły, another example for naming >> noble family Sokólscy Coat of arms Gozdawa, founded that place.

Close around are many villages called Zambrzyce-suffix or just Zambrzyce. Also, Zambrów is nearby, many Maluchniks come from there.
