Hi Ryszard

I think it must be a variation of another name .. but how to know what !!?
From the records I have seen so far around Radom, there seems to be no-one else with this name, indicating that she had come from another area ??

So far these are the only records I have found (the ones that I have posted on here).

I am waiting for the marriage record of this lady's daughter to arrive, so I am hoping that it does record the name of the bride's mother !!
This record will be from 1922-1925 so hopefully will be written in Polish rather than Russian, so may give more clues !
Elzbieta's analysis of the name is great! She mentions the difference between the sound of a name and how it is written, so I have a suggestion: Many years ago, the Russians became interested in the writings of American historian and writer Loren Eiseley. Some of the first translations of his works into Russian were attributed to the American author Азели/Azeli, using the broad "aaah" sound instead of the Germanic "Ei-". Could Azler be a variation of Eiseler, Eisler, or some such?
Hi Elzbieta
I put my 5 birth/baptism records on the Russian Translations forum and Ryszard (I think?) has so far translated three of them and has put the mother's name as Azler for all three.
I also put the one for my great grandmother on here for you to see.

This name, Azler, it is a mystery !!
Natalie

Natalie,

I have been analysing your record in Cyrillic, very well scribed and legible page, yes, I agree it is Azler.

No single Azler in Poland, neither in Germany, I was trying to figure out possible "ear transformations" on the road, in addition to usual loss of sound precision when you move from Latin to Cyrillic and the opposite.
For exemple the sound "z" correspond to the letter "s" with vovels on each side in French, such as in "visa".
The Polish "ż" is spelled like "j in jelly", without dot is just "z", but "rz" spells the same as "ż".
There is also a heading H, which is not spelled in some languages, i.e. hassle can be written assl or asl by Polish scribe.

You have some Hazler, Hasler, Hassler, i.e.
http://www.verwandt.de/karten/absolut/hassler.html
http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=hazler

In recent record I had the name "Ajzyk" which is Polish ear transformation of "Isaac" - to show you another possibility.

"This name, Azler, it is a mystery !!"
Best,
I have an answer with very few Azler, but verifying one by one, almost all are Ezler. I looked up in the original records for 2 supposed Azler, but my old Polish eyes do not see it. On case is Axler.
Searching with Axler leads to Exler.

No Azler in Stankiewicze (website gathering each and every possible information), not even etymology. No answers with Aizler, Ajzler, Atzler

My great, great grandmother was Jozefa Azler, identified in 5 birth/baptism records of her children born in Dzierzkow, Radom between 1898-1908.

I am having trouble finding anything about this name or where she may have originated from. Within the Radom area where these births were found, there do not appear to be any other people named Azler, nor can her marriage be found in this parish.

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions !
Searching in geneteka
I have an answer with very few Azler, but verifying one by one, almost all are Ezler. I looked up in the original records for 2 supposed Azler, but my old Polish eyes do not see it. On case is Axler.
Searching with Axler leads to Exler.

No Azler in Stankiewicze (website gathering each and every possible information), not even etymology. No answers with Aizler, Ajzler, Atzler
http://www.stankiewicze.com/index.php?kat=44&sub=530
59 Azler in Germany
No Azler in Polad
At this stage I have doubts about Azler in the old records. If you have a scan, I would like to see it.
