The Mormon Church has microfilmed the parish records for Transfiguration Churc in Baffulo, Erie County, New York along with many other churches from Buffalo. I might suggest you go to your local family history center and order these. Jim Tye

The records from Transfiguration church are probably now in the archives of the Catholic Diocese in Buffalo. Here is the info to reach their Archives:

Here is a list of items where I found the name of my ancestors village or birthplace. Perhaps one of these will provide what you need:

Social security application: If your grandfather applied for a social security number, he was required to identify his birthplace on the application.

Birth or death certificates: Some birth and death certificates have the place of birth listed for the parents. Did you find a death certificate for Caecilia or any other relatives?

Ship manifests: Many ship manifests have the passengers birthplace and last residence before they boarded the ship to North America. I like to use the Steve Morse Ellis Island Gold Form and type in partial spellings of surnames. You can then browse the list and find some interesting things. You can also search by village name. Again, you can use a partial spelling. Military Draft Registrations: Your grandfather or his relatives may have provided his birthplace when his draft registrations were filled in.

I got the marriage info at The Poznan Project online,my g- g-grandfather and g- g-grandmother were married in a Catholic parish in Slawno,in 1849,but that's about all that I know of location in Poland.They list so many towns,but I have no idea of which one it might be.
I e-mailed St. Stanislaus Church in buffalo several months ago for information,but they still haven't got back to me.
I don't know who holds the records for the Transfiguration Church since it closed,so I'm kind of at a dead end for now. I suppose I should take a look at some church's microfilm and old newspapers at the Buffalo library .

Hi Diedre,

It took me awhile to figure out the location of my ancestral home, but I eventually did before I went to Poland. It made my trip so much more meaningful to be able to go to the village where my family actually lived.

Trying to trace ancestors from Buffalo NY back to Poznan, Slawno,Poland.
Martinus Braciszewski married Caecilia Koteras in 1849.They were 25,26 years old.
Cecylia,a widow came to buffalo in 1883 with her 16 yo son,Martin,my g-grandfather.Lived on Coit St. in Buffalo and Martin's children,Jake and John were baptized from the Transfiguration Church.
Also,St. Stanislaus church was nearest to Coit St.,so I'm wondering if any death records for Cecylia may be there..
