Welcome to the Forum Jane,

You are right, Jaskulski derives from Polish jaskółka- „swallow” (bird).

It is a popular surname in Poland. In 2002 there were 5374 people using the surname Jaskulski or Jaskulska living in Poland. Detailed map of the surname distribution can be found here https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Jaskulski .

But what is important in case of your Jaskulski surname is the fact that the second (or rather first) part of it Laszczyc/Leszczyc indicates that your family is of a noble origin: Jaskulski coat of arms Laszczyc. And indeed, in the old book Register of Polish Nobility published in 1887 in Lwow we can find information about Jaskolski family coat of arms Leszczyc from Jaskółki in Poznan region The information comes from 1568.

On Polish wikipedia you can read more about the Leszczyc coat of arms: http://bit.ly/b2CpL6 (translated from Polish by google translate tool). And here: http://www.jurzak.pl/gd/szablony/herb.php?lang=en&id=0079 find more noble family surnames who used this coat of arms
My father's name was Ewald Juliusz Leszczyc-Jaskulski. I think the meaning of Jaskulski is the name of a bird, the swallow. Is this correct? Do you have any other information about this name?
Regards
