A few days ago I returned from Forefathers Traces Tour with my guest Andrew. We were searching for family Klimecki in southern Poland, including beautiful mountains area near Stary Sacz.

Andrew asked for me to check meaning and origins of the Klimecki and Klimek surnames.

Klimek, Klimecki Polish/Lithuanian from first name Klemens - „mild” (English “Clement”). Also from Klimiec (Ruthenian “Klymeć”) town located near Stryj on today's Ukraine territory. First written mention about Klimek surname comes from 1385.

In 2002 there were 19 800 people using the surname Klimek and 1053 using the surname Klimecki (or female form Klimecka) living in Poland. Detailed map of these surnames distribution can be found here: Klimek: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Klimek , Klimecki https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Klimecki .

Listen how the surnames are pronounced in Polish (speakers turned on): http://say.expressivo.com/jacek/klimek and http://say.expressivo.com/ewa/klimecki .

Click here: http://polishorigins.com/databases/index?s=klimecki to check what can be found about your surname in Polish Genealogy Databases, including information about the plane accident (?) in which General Tadeusz Klimecki along with General Władysła Sikorski and a few other important figures in Polish politics in WWII were killed.
