And of course if you want something visual and aural relating to the social life on a country manor, nothing can beat the famous Polonez scene of Andrzej Wajda’s film of the classic Polish epic poem “Pan Tadeusz”. Here is a short YouTube clip from the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_Tbc_XTnPw
Donna,
There is one excellent book, but unfortunately only in Polish:
"Dwór wiejski" (Rural manor house) by Karolina Nakwaska from Potocki family. This book is from 1843, but there are contemporary re-editions.

This is a kind of the guide for the housewives, including the description and layout of a residential home, courtyard and other buildings. The equipment of the pantry, the servants, their choice and behavior, timetable and general house equipment, recipes and a collection of practical tips including: toothache, pregnancy, maligna, marriage, potions, mulberries, flies and ants, food properties, leg or hand twisting etc.

This is the treasury of knowledge about life in those days.

Good luck with your novel!
Does anyone have any information on what life was like for the landed gentry who lived in manor homes? I'm writing a novel and really can't find much! Thanks.
