There are a number of possibilities for this apparent americanized interpretation. If you assume that "Great" could be the translation of the Polish word "Wielkie" or "Wielka" or " Wielki" then the location could also have been any one of the following which were in the 'German' areas:
Lipka Wielka woj. Wielkoposkie
Lipki Wielkie woj Lubuskie
Wielka Lipa woj. Dolnośląskie
Lipczynek next to the lake Lipczyno Wielkie woj. Pomorskie

I strongly suggest that you obtain a copy of his birth certificate as a first step of confirming his father's and mother's names, and any other relevant personal detail.
