I cant find birth record for Adalbertus

Ron,

Adalbertus is the latinized form for Wojciech.

i cant find birth record for Adalbertus but i did find a record for a Catharina Surma. Date of birth was 22 Sep 1876 and the place was Jazowsko which is also very close to Grybow. If this is my granfathers mother she would have been 20 years old when he was born.. The age makes me beleive that this might be a possibility!!!!!.

Ron,

If you have access to Jazowsko parish records I would advice you to look for marriage record of Catharina Surma and Adalbertus (Wojciech) Poremba starting from 1896 and going backwards.

Hello there,

Im writing you from Holland since your quest has sparked an interest. My grandmother Maria Poreba born 1910 is indeed from the Gallicia area. My mother is Polish her mother had maiden name Poreba and it's not super common. The town you name, Grybów is situated about 1 hour from both Slovakia and 2 hours from the Ukraine. Seeing that in those days it wasnt that common to find your spouse very far from the nest we might as well just be far relatives Smile My grandma lived 30 km from Grybow. If you happen to visit Poland this year I would suggest you also look at the Tarnow Roman Catholic Diocese Church Books, (1612-1900) which you can find at https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1985025. It gave me at least the names of my great grand parents from my mothers side. So long story short I think it's worth for you to go to Tarnów which is more East to find more relatives in the church books. You maybe bump into me, Im also going there beginning of August to see what more I can find about my roots.

Nicole sorry it has taken me this long to answer and i'm not sure you will see this or not...don't know how to reply properly...my email address is [email protected] . I am leaving for Warsaw on aug 22 and will spend two days there then we will be going to Krakow for 3 days...hopefully as you suggest I will be able to get over to Tarnow and review the records at the church....And ofcourse we very well may be related....there are an awful lot of Poreba's that are from this area of Poland....My daughter Kelli Poremba our named was changed to poremba when Granddad came to the United States because that's how it sounds when you say Poreba.....anyway she is the one taking me to Poland....
