Post subject: Possibly Ruthenian
I am attaching the back of an old photo for translation. I was told that the language is neither Polish nor Ukrainian, but Ruthenian. It is a picture of two young children who might be the children or grandchildren of my great grandmother, Perania (Paraskewia) Ferenc, who lived in Huta Stara, Poland--the Huta Stara near Narol in Podkarpackie). It appears that some of the words might have been cut off by someone trimming the picture. I would like to identify the children and possibly find out what else is written there.
A Polish speaking friend identified the names as Maria and Grzegorz, but as far as I know, there was no Grzegorz, but there was a Herasim.

We declare that in the presence of witnesses Marcin Macczak [?], 56, and Wojciech Siwinski, 51, both householders from Dziwe, that concluded this day was the religious rite of marital union between Pawel Konopinski, 40, widower, householder, born in Zalesje, Chodacz parish, resident of Huta Hodacz [?], son of the legal marriage of the deceased Jan and Marianna nee Nidrzowska [?] Konopinski, and Katarzyna Mazurek, single, 24, servant born and residing in Dziwe, daughter of the legal marriage of the deceased Andrzej and Katarzyna nee Kazimerczak Mazurek. The marriage was preceded by the thrice proclaimed Banns of Marriage, published in the local and Hodacz parish churches on 24 June, 1 and 8/6 and 13 and 20 of July this year. No obstacles were declared. No prenuptial agreement. This act read aloud to the newlyweds and witnesses and signed only by me. Fr. M. Jakubowski, rector of parish, registrar of civil acts.

This could be a registry of death of Józef Kęsikowski, my great-granduncle brother of my great-grandfather Adam Kęsikowski I seem to having problems with the attempt to translate, the combination of Russian and Polish spelling and handwriting were difficult! I have attempted to use the Polish computer keyboard, because the surnames from Russian to English would be terribly misleading. Please let me know if this states clearly where he was born and the name of his parents.

It is well writen, and easy to decipher - and you are right, those are Polish words in Cyrillic.

Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with Rusyn to give you an accurate translation of the notation, and the only thing I can add to what Elzbieta has stated is that the two names are Maria and Grigorii [Grezgorz], and the discussion is about the cost of sending letters and packages to the brother.
Perhaps someone from the Rusyn/Ruthenian community could be of more help to you.

I have been to Żyrardów, it is circa 50 km South-West from my place in Warsaw.
Zyrardow was well known for its textile factory, and absolutely outstanding manufacturing's settlement (now beeing renovated).
