Hi.

I have a copy of a Naturalization Declaration for a cousin, Casimir Cichocki. It names the place of his birth as KAMIN RICHAHINSKI. It should be somewhere in the Lipno area; another cousin was born in Mokowo, Dobrzyn nad Wisla.

KAMIN I'm sure should be Kamien, but I'm not finding anything on my maps that looks like Richahinski.
Can anyone suggest what it might be?

The name Chalino is in the old geography book

There is a lake Jezioro Chalińskie.

Not far away you have on today map
Kamień Kotowy, Poland (approx 9 km from Chalin)
and also nearby Kamień Kmiecy.

The name Kamień means stone, there is a number of places called Kamień something in Poland.
My guess would be that the strange name Richahinski would be close to ? Chaliński, and related to Chalino/Chalin or the lake Jezioro Chalińskie.

Thank you, Elzbieta and Gilberto,

I appreciate your suggestions. The name Cichocki seems to be very common in the Lipno area.
My Kazimierz lived in Chicago from about 1902 on. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the Kazimierz you found, Gilberto, was part of the same family. I didn't think to connect Richahinski with Chalin - although
now that you did, Elzbieta, - I see the possibility.

I will be checking all those locations out, and thank you for your help.

Maybe this would help: Polish etymological works confirm the place name Kamien (Kamień) derives from a stone, giving a branch of place names: Kamienica (the town/village/settlement built of kamien), Kamienczyk (derived from Kamien), Kamiensk (belonged to Kamien), Kamiona (in plural), etc. etc. Sometimes, the Kamien/... has the second name derived from the name of the owner...

To start, I've used Polish census 1990 and 2002, checked some Polish names in the area, and found the locations:
Ryczkowski - few in the local town of Dobrzyn nad Wisla, and in Wloclawek
Rykaczewski - 1 in Wloclawek
Rybczynski [fully spelled in Polish as Rybczyński] - few in Lipno
Rybaczewski - 1 in Wloclawek
Rybaczynski [Rybaczyński] - 1 in Wloclawek
BTW, Polish Ry........ might be phonetically given to American clerk as Ri........

I've checked the name of the land owners from the area in the 19th century, and found family name Rykaczewski, also the list of the year 1909 confirms Rykaczewski:

Thus, I suppose your Casimir-Kazimierz Cichocki gave his POB as Kamien/Kamienie/Kamienica Rykaczewski.

If this Kamien/... is Kamien Kotowy, and/or Kamien Kmiecy, you must check the records from the parish Tluchowo, as both these places in the 19th century belonged to this Tluchowo:

Hello, dear Shellie !
Yes, I am also in the collection of information about individuals and families of my family who emigrated to the United States noticed misspelled the name of the village in Poland. Names of the village were the most twisted by the U.S. and Canadian immigration officials. Many of these places I am able to identify and locate. However, not all of the lists of villages, especially those formerly located on the premises of the former Galicia still exist. Some of them, lying outside the current borders of Poland has been different, Ukrainian, Belarusian and Lithuanian name. But happy to help in identifying the correct of the names of Polish villages and of Polish immigrant's surnames.

If you are still searching for the family of Kazimierz Cichocki, I have transcribed the marriage records for Mokowo (and other surrounding parishes) and would be happy to look for any records of interest.
