Post subject: Sondey/Sadej surname
Hi!
My grandfather always called himself Polish and he spoke the language (I never met him, but my father knew him his entire life). He was born in Lukowies (now Lukovets) which is now in Ukraine. He spelled his last name "Sondey" in the US, but on the Ellis Island records it is spelled "Sadej." Can anyone tell me more about this last name? Thanks in advance.
