Hello Ryszard,

I am attaching two more records for you to have a look at. They both include names that were listed within my Babcia's papers, so hoping to see if we can find the connection to tie them into my family! Thank you so much for the amazing work that you do!

Megan.

Bronislawa Skrzat Death #3
Bartlomeij Skrzat Death #66
Stefan Skrzat Death #5
Stefan Skrzat Birth #26

I am trying to find any relatives or siblings for my husband's grandmother Stefanja Skrzat daughter of Franciszek Skrzat and Katarzyna Mazur.

Also does anyone know how to obtain a copy of a marriage record for Franciszek Skrzot and Katarzyna that is listed for 1889 but has a ? in the entry number and no scanned certificate available on regestry.lubgens.eu. I believe they were married in Boby Parish.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Peggy

Ryszard,
Peggy,

The term "kolonia" is often used for village extension, "kolonia" means "settlement".

A confusing history lesson: Please remember that the terms the Russians used for population points such as towns, villages, settlements, cites, before the 1917 Revolution were changed fairly frequently. Each name for a population point was defined by various administrations to indicate the administrative status of that population point. A 'colony' was under a different administration than a 'village' or 'town.' If we define these Russian terms in today's English language, almost all of them would be called just "towns."

Kolonia, колония = colony

selo, село = village or church village

selenie, селение = settlement or village

derevnya, деревня = a rural or country village

gorod, город = a larger town or even a city

Of course, there were also various regional differences, to further confuse English speakers!
