Post subject: Parish records for Lesnica
I would like to try to get information from the parish regarding my great grandfather, Wojciech Las. I just found out that he was born about 1859 in the village of Lesnica, Malopolskie, Poland. This village is south of Nowy Targ and near the village of Gron. My question: Would his records be located in Szaflary? If not can some please tell me where the records would be located
Thank you
Mary

At familysearch.org, you can search the library catalog for Lesnica and find church records that can be ordered and viewed at your nearest Latter Day Saints library.

In general most Roman Catholic church records for the Nowy Targ area have not been microfilmed. The original records are only available in the parish churches. The areas of Poland that were part of Hungary during the partition (and therefore part of what is now Slovakia) and then were given back to Poland after WWI have been filmed. I don' t think Lesnica was part of what is now Spis County, Slovakia, although several villages east and south of Lesnica were. Hopefully others can confirm or refute my thoughts about Lesnica being in the part of Poland that was under Hungarian control until 1920. I had to go to Nowy Targ to find records for my grandfather & his siblings. Good luck. ~PL

BTW- Anthony Las was godfather to my grandfather and 8 of his siblings from 1870 to 1887 and Marianna Las was a godmother in 1889 to the last born of the children.
Check out this post about rhe parish for Gron-Lesnica. http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=954&highlight=lesnica. Bill Rushin may be able to help you. ~PL

Records from Lesnica could be from either Szaflary or Bialka Tatrzanska.
They are not on microfilm, or at least not much is.
If you plan to go to Krakow, you can research records from both parishes at the archdiocese archives. The state archives have some records as well, but not much. But they can at least look it up and send to you electronically.
Bialka Tatrzanska records are more complete than Szaflary.
If you are serious about doing this research, I can give you some more tips. Feel free to send me a private message.

Lesnica Church Records are actually held in Lesnica. Only rarely do you see entries in Bialka Tatrzanka (for example a marriage of a man from Lesnica to a woman from Bialka). In the very early records for Szaflary you will find Lesnica records but these are well before 1786.
