Hi, I am searching for more information about my grandmother's family (her parents and an unknown brother).
Her name was Mieczyslawa Barbara Koszuta (married Karolak). She was born in 1920 in Germany (Bützow?). She died in 1945. Her parents: Stanislawa Koszuta (born Glaz) and Stanislaw Koszuta. She had one elder half brother, Stefan Glaz. He was born in Köllershof, Mecklenburg in 1911 and christened in Schwerin (Mecklenburg).

I know that my grandmother and her brother had one brother but we don't know his name or when and where he was born. However, Stefan's son remembers that he and his mother met him at a tram in Warsaw a few years after WW2. Stefan's son was told by his mother that the man was his father's brother. He did not live in Warsaw but in Poznan/Wielkopolska region. I dont't know anything about their parents (where they were born, life, marriage or death).

I have no information about my grandmother's childhood and early youth (where she lived etc.). She was baptised in Warsaw in 1937. I know that her parents were not present at the ceremony. According to church documents, my grandmother and her brother Stefan didn't know where their parents lived. Stefan was present as a witness at the ceremony. Both my grandmother and her brother at that time lived in Warsaw. It seems that my grandmother and Stefan had little or no contact with their brother and parents. I don't know why.

If there is someone who knows anything about the Koszuta and/or Glaz families or have any advice on how I can find out more, please contact me at: [email protected]. Thank you!

Hello Anette,

I found some FamilySearch.org hits:
https://familysearch.org/search/record/results#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3AStanislaw~%20%2Bsurname%3AKoszuta~

Here is one of a 1900 Census in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany for "Stanislaus Koszuta" in Butzow:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MVTY-KSC
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-12319-248360-88?cc=1607939

I do not know if this is correct person, but as of December 1900 in Butzow, I think it says:
Household owner = Stanislaus Koszuta
Wife = Sofia Koszuta (maiden name Sofia Kopplow?)
Brother-in-law = Friedrich Kopplow

Using other FamilySearch, I found some Church/vital records for Butzow.
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/results#count=20&placeId=37218&query=%2Bplace%3A%22Germany%2C%20Mecklenburg-Schwerin%2C%20B%C3%BCtzow%22

But, problem is these church records stop at about 1875. If Mieczyslawa Barbara Koszuta was born in 1920/Butzow, and her older brother half-brother Stefan Glaz was born in 1911, then neither Mieczyslawa or Stefan's birth records will be found in these church records.

Also, for Stefan to be born in 1911... let us assume the father/mother are 31 years old. It would mean the father/mother (Stanislaw Koszuta and Stanislawa Glaz/maiden) would be born ~1880 and their births will likely not be found in these records.

However, if they are Jewish, then the microfilme of the Jewish church records SHOULD have the birth record (and the marriage record [assuming they were married 13 years before Stefan's birth]) of the parents, because the Jewish records are for years 1813 - 1898.
