Last weekend in Italy were organised celebrations commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Monte Cassino Battle.

The Battle lasted 123 days: from 17 January to 18 May 1944. It is considered one of the most fierce (beside the fighting at Stalingrad, Kursk, D-Day and the Warsaw Uprising) during World War II.

The significant army fighting in Monte Cassino was Polish II Corps, commanded by General Władysław Anders.
The campaign had claimed the lives of 923 Poles, 2,931 were injured and 345 reported missing.
