Exactly 20 years ago most important event in the modern Polish history took place: the first (almost) free elections to Polish parliament after WWII. It is a date when communism in Poland fell down Exclamation Then it spread out in the whole Eastern Europe.

Today we celebrate this event in Poland. And today, after these 20 years, Polish economy in times of the global crisis has the highest national product growth in the whole Europe (1.9% GDP y/y) while most of the countries in the world experience sever decline of its economies, even -20% Exclamation

You can read more about this historic event from point of view of two main actors of those times: Wojciech Jaruzelski and Lech Wałęsa: http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/05/21/aoc.poland.jaruzelski.walesa/index.html .

Abstract from the article:
"(...)By 1989, Solidarity had become an unstoppable social movement, sweeping to victory as the communist authorities relinquished their grip on power by allowing free elections. Walesa describes the union as a screw turning in the opposite direction to the communist regime, ultimately "destroying the engine."(...)

More about communizm in Poland you will find on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_People%27s_Republic or on our blog: http://polishorigins.com/document/communism .

CNN to celebrate the 25th anniversary made a list of "25 things we love about Poland."

Among the 25 places or character feature chosen by CNN there is the "painted the village" in Zalipie (#11) submitted by our Aga Smile . Check this out here: http://edition.cnn.com/2014/06/04/travel/poland-25-things-independence-irpt/index.html?hpt=hp_c5#cnn-disqus-area

If you want to read more about this unique village check Aga's article here: http://blog.polishorigins.com/2013/07/19/zalipie-the-painted-village/ or on CNN http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1138739 or visit Poland (you know that we can help you in that: http://tours.polishorigins.com/ Smile ).
