Post subject: Karolak, Poland/Russia
Looking for relatives and any information about Mieczyslaw Karolak b. 21 Nov 1911, Zgierz, Poland and his wife Irena (last name not known) .b. 27 October 1922 in Lodz, Poland. Probably married 1944 in Germany. One son Ryszard b. 1945 in Vierden, Germany, other son b.1946 in Diepholz, Germany. They may have lived in the DP camp Marienthal, Germany.
The name Kazimierz is mentioned on immigration papers, as is DPACS 104 Mariental.
They migrated as DP to Australia in 1950. Their son Mieczyslaw (michael) would desperately like to find out more about his forefathers
Any info greatly appreciated. We are on a dead end.

Yes Chellie, we found that Michaels father Mieczyslaw b.1911 was married to Irena Luczak through which we have been able to track all her siblings and her parents. This also got us a Luczak family contact in the UK.
About Mieczyslaws grandparents we have not been able to find anything, very disappointing. Only that his grandfather was taken by the Russians to Siberia probably in 1920?
We'll keep on hunting. Cheers Corinne

Hello. I have Karolak's in my family tree: My great grandmother Praxeda Karolak was born in 1885 in Dziedziec (sp?) Poland. Her parents were Szymon and Katarzyna Karolak. I don't know their birth dates or residence, we just know that Szymon was a farm owner and tax collector. In addition to Praxeda, Syzmon and Katarzyna had three other children - Cecilia, Francizska, and Viktoria. I haven't been able to find much on any of these people, but I'm hoping they somehow fit into your family tree. Please review this and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Hi,
The correct spelling for the place is Dziedzice. Though there are six in present day Poland, yours is the one in gmina gmina Lądek, powiat słupecki, province wielkopolskie. This place is located 40 miles north of Skalmieryzce, where Syzmon and Kataryzna married, according to the information below, found in Poznan Project:
Civil registry Skalmierzyce, entry 38 / 1883
Simon Karólak (30 years old)
father: Stanislaus Karólak , mother: Franziska Kaźmierczak
Catharine Florczak (21 years old)
father: Philipp Florczak , mother: Louise Kubiak
The best part is that Skalmierzyce records are online, including the year Praxeda was born.
The worst part is that records are not indexed, so you will have to check one by one (and they are handwritten in German):

Thank you Gilberto! The Poznan Project is a great source, I've spent the last few hours on there and have already found 4 new surnames thanks to you. I truly appreciate you taking the time to look that up and post it here. Good man!

Kovyp,
I have also found that the parish for Dziedzice is in Ciążeń.
Online records in http://szukajwarchiwach.pl/54/739/0/?q=ciazen+XTYPEro:zesp+XSKANro:t&wynik=1&rpp=15&page=1#tabSerie
Another finding in http://slupcagenealogy.com/ which is intriguing:
a Cecylia b. 1865, a Francizek b. 1871 and a Praxeda b. 1865, all of them in Dziedzice.
Their mother was also named Katarzyna (maiden name was Guczwo or something) and father was Wojciech Karolak. Two Karolak couples in a small place, giving the same names to their children? My guess is that Wojciech could be a brother or cousin to Szymon.
