Post subject: Polish Web sites for Genealogical data
szpejankowski.eu:
This is not a state archive, it does not have church records. What it does have, in a way, is much more useful.
The site seems to be a Polish group that is making it simple to find names and genealogic data (names, birth/marriage/death date, parents names, etc). Among their Polish language Genealogy web pages are many index's of records of births, marraiges and deaths in Parishes of Central Poland, "Dobrinland" or Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The Parish indexes on that site can be found at: http://www.szpejankowski.eu/index.php/metryki-wykazy-osob/102-indeksacja.html
Most are Catholic parishes, a few Evangelic (Lutheran) lists. The indexes are PDF files for various years. They appear to be from LDS tape contents.
I've been researching my German ancestors that lived there for many generations. I knew that when there was no local Evangelic (Lutheran) churches nearby, they would go to the nearest Catholic church to assure they'd register their event. I got lucky finding the birth records of my, German Evangelic, 3xGreat grandparent's children in the Czernikowo, Catholic, parish. Their German village, Jackowo, was about 2-3 miles from that church.
It's simple to download or view their PDF file, search for surnames of interest, and if you need the record - either visit the archive where that churches records are kept, or as I did - order an LDS tape that contains those records.
And you do know how to get Google to translate from Polish to English (or any other combination)? If not, enter "Translate Polish English" in the Google search and it'll give you the steps you need to know.
Good hunting..
