I am hoping to travel to Poland in late March early April 2015 so that I can research my mothers date of birth. My mother will turn 99 in April 2015. I have a copy of documents which I received from the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC that showed that when she was deported from Poland to Germany in 1941 that her date of birth was 14 April 1915. Other documents show her date of birth as 16 April 1916. My mother told me many years ago that her real date of birth was 14 April but she did not confirm the year. My thoughts were that the Germans kept good records and that possibly she was born in 1915 which would mean that she would turn 100 next year. My mother now has dementia so I have missed the opportunity of asking her anything. I also have a copy of what I think may be her marriage certificate which shows her date of birth as 14 April 1916 and then 14 April 1915. I will have to try and have this certificate translated for me into english.

My mothers family came from the Rzeszow area in Poland and I still have family living in the area but do not have the exact address of where they are living.

My question is there any possibility of finding any records for my mother, I was hoping that a search of church records may show her date of birth. Where would I start looking if I did go to Poland. I was only going to be in Poland for about two weeks which would also be over the Easter break so my days for research would be limited. I have never been able to find whether my parents had any birth records. My father was from Wyrembin area in Poland but I will leave that research for another time.

I would also like to know whether there are any army records that are available online. My father was in Buchenwald concentration camp from 1944 to 1945. I have copies of his records that has a description of Politische Polen and then Arbeiter. My translation shows this would mean Political Pole and Worker. I always thought my father was in the polish army. He died 20 years ago so I cannot research this any further. I was also going to Weimar (Buchenwald) to attend the memorial services on April 12 1915. Does anybody know if there are any records that I can research while I am there.

hoping somebody can assist me.

Thank you

Krystyna,

Here it is.
One line by one line, first typed in Polish (with one or two words in Latin), second in English.

It is a marriage record.

Best,
Elzbieta

Thank you Elzbieta for your prompt reply. It is very much appreciated. Gave me more information regarding my grandparents names and also the parish where my parents were born which may help with my search. I only have one photograph of my grandparents on my fathers side and no photos for maternal grandparents.

Hello Krystyna,

My name is Lucjan Cichocki and I'm a member of PolishOrigins Research Team. I'd like to inform you that the records for Kolbuszowa are available at the diocesan archive in Tarnów. I've attached a detailed list of years to this message for your information. As far as newer records are concerned, i.e. from late 1890s and 1900s, they are available at the civil registry office in Kolbuszowa. One of our Team has been to the office and the staff there was very helpful and welcoming so that they could search for the information they needed.

I've also found two people in the telephone directory for the town of Kolbuszowa that might be related to you, I could contact them prior to your arrival should you wish me to.

I'd also like to inform you that PolishOrigins can help you with your trip as well as act as intermediaries and help establish contact with your family in Poland. It is also possible to carry out genealogy research before you actually come to our country so that you have some theoretical background in advance. See http://polishorigins.com/document/genealogy_tours for details regarding the tours. If you are interested, fill out the form available at the following address http://bit.ly/genealogy_tour_poland and you'll be provided with detailed information.

Krystyna,

I think one of these couples are likely Wojciech and Jadwiga's parents.

Gilberto

Thank you for that information regarding my fathers family. I will have to leave the research on that side of the family for another trip to Poland. I want to concentrate on my mother's family at this time as I would like to find whether she was born in 1915 or 1916. I did try and look up details for a cousin who lived in Tarnowski Gory in poland. His name was Genek Siemieniece. I would think he would be in his late 70's or 80+. I was in Poland in 1975 and from memory he was much older than I was at the time. I have found a memorial notice for a Eugeniusz Siemieniec which I assume that "Genek" would be the short form for his christian name. I cannot work out from the funeral notice whether it would be my cousin or not. I am trying to remember the name of his wife, maybe Maria ?? his sister was Irena but I do not know her married name and he had one child who may have been Danuta (again not sure.

Once again thank you for this information.

In reply to your earlier post, I know I still have an uncle and aunt that live in Kosowy. They would be my mothers step brother and step sister. Would that be the same as Kolbuszowa? the nearest church from what I have been told is in Trzesowka. I have a cousin and an aunt who live in Australia but they are both very vague on any details. I will try and contact the churches you have given me by email and see if they respond. I will find somebody to write these letters for me, I am born in Australia and can speak and understand polish but cannot read it anymore.

Thank you for your help.

Krystyna,

If you speak polish you may want to give that USC a call and ask them to check for the correct date. Kosowy and Trzesowka (krzesowka in that record you uploaded) in the map below.

Hi

I wrote to USC in Kolbuszwa and received the following reply from them. I do not understand what they are saying. Can somebody please translate for me.

WITAM!
Urząd Stanu Cywilnego w Kolbuszowej w odpowiedzi na Pani e-mail dot. daty urodzenia Anastazji Krupa ur. Kosowy , Trzęsówka przesyła e-mail zgodnie z właściwością miejscową do USC Cmolas i USC Niwiska .
Z-ca Kier. USC

This is my original email to them requesting information:

Urząd Stanu Cywilnego - Kolbuszowa
ul. Obrońców Pokoju 21
36-100 Kolbuszowa
POLAND
Szanowny Pan

imię i nazwisko: Anastazja Krupa
data urodzenia (w przybliżeniu): 14 Kwiecień 1915 – 14 Kwiecień 1916
miejsce urodzenia: Kolbuszowa pow Lwów
Kosowy Trzęsówka
imię i nazwisko ojca: Jan Krupa
imię i nazwisko panieńskie matki: ANNY Krupa ( ŻELAZO)

Proszę sprawdzić czy macie w aktach od roku 1915 do roku 1916, świadectwo urodzenia tej osoby.
Jeśli istnieje możliwość otrzymania kserokopii wpisów do tych ksiąg.

I received the following reply from the church in Rzeszow. I ran it thru polish to english translation and I am assuming that I need to write to the address that they have given me. I did email the church (St Ann in Trzeszowka) unfortunately the email was returned as undeliverable. The address on the web page is either incorrect or not being used. Can somebody please translate this for me.

Many Thanks
Krystyna

Szanowna Pani!
Archiwum Diecezjalne w Rzeszowie powstało w 1992 r. po utworzeniu diecezji rzeszowskiej. Od tego też czasu gromadzi swe zasoby. Dokumentów archiwalnych z poprzedniego okresu należy szukać w archiwach parafialnych właściwych dla miejscowości Kosowy, bądź w Archiwum Diecezjalnym w Tarnowie.
adres Archiwum
Archiwum Diecezjalne w Tarnowie
ul. Katedralna 3,
33-100 Tarnów
tel. 14-622-34-23
[email protected]
http://www.archiwum.diecezja.tarnow.pl
Nadmieniam, że parafia w Kosowach powstała w 1983 r. i od tego roku prowadzone są tam księgi metrykalne. Wcześniej natomiast terytorium tej wsi należało aż do trzech parafii:
- Trzęsówka
adres:
Parafia Rzymskokatolicka
Trzęsówka 237
36-106 Trzęsówka
- Niwiska
adres:
Parafia Rzymskokatolicka
Niwiska 157
36-147 Niwiska
- Ostrowy Tuszowskie
adres:
Parafia Rzymskokatolicka
Ostrowy Tuszowskie 143
36-105 Cmolas
W tychże parafiach należy szukać aktu chrztu Pani matki. Ja osobiście zacząłbym od parafii w Trzęsówce. Można więc poprosić wója bądź kogoś z jego rodziny, by podszedł do tamtejszej parafii i poprosił o akt chrztu pani matki.
Życzę sukcesów w prowadzonej kwerendzie.
Z poważaniem
ks. dr Andrzej Motyka, dyrektor Archiwum Diecezjalnego w Rzeszowie
