Post subject: "Blechhammer" -- a B-17 crash over Koniowka, Polan
The book "Blechhammer" by Boguslaw Zieba describes reasons, circumstances and run of combats. It contains airmans' index with photos, original letters' scans, operation plan and maps. It's written in English and Polish.
On September 13, 1944 the peaceful village in Podhale County was shocked by the event which, during the following few months, was to be widely discussed, but has been forgotten for more than half a century. Tacit collusion and lack of interest in the crash of Flying Fortress # 44-6412 near to Koniówka, as well as the further fate of the crew became the subject which finally raised public attention in the beginning of the new millennium.
Thank you for informing us about the book and your recommendation. I found the book on Amazon.com here: Blechhammer by Bogusław Zięba and added it to recommended by our members items list here: PO Store .

Post subject: Prepare to bail out!
There is another book out now telling about the same flight. This time the author is the crew member from 1944, Mr. Richard Hansler who was a navigator in a B-17 from Koniowka. He wrote his memories in 1945 after he had come back to the USA. He published them March 2010 under "Prepare to bail out!". I am expecting a copy of it soon.
